  • No fees for $2k/month deposit… anyone know how much it is if you do not meet that requirement? Its hard to tell on mobile.

    • +1

      $5 a month

      • thanks!
so open an account, deposit $500… leave open for 45 days, -$5 in fees… profit $45?

        • +3

Essentially yes. Might need to do it twice it goes over two months.

        • you are too lazy to meet the deposit requirement?

          • +3

@random12: err, I was listing the worst case.. or maybe some people don't have $2k lying around like you Mr money bags.

Either way, go back under the rock you live in.

            • +1

              @philldo: They don't even need $2k.

They can deposit and withdraw multiple times.

E.g. $100 deposit and withdrawn ( or withdrawn and deposlt ) each day for 20days.

            • @philldo: philldo, random12. Let's be respectful in our conversations. Thanks.

Offer excludes customers who hold or have held a Complete Freedom Account with Bank of Melbourne, BankSA or St.George Bank at any time

    Ouch

    • That just means if youve held that type of account youre ineligible. Current/former customers of any other account type are eligible?

      • -1

Nope. Any account egardless of time. Even if you close your st George account five years ago.

        • +1

Thats not what it says. Its specifically referring to the Complete Freedom Account.

"Offer excludes customers who hold or have held a Complete Freedom Account with Bank of Melbourne, BankSA or St.George Bank at any time."

I do not know about St George but 3 people in my family opened one of these with Bank of Melbourne and all had to front at the Branch. They all had their id verified online but still had to do this and it can be a hassle. Since they are one group it may also apply.

    • I had the same thing, but my card still turned up. Went in to verify anyway and they said everything was all active and there was nothing extra needed so who knows.

  • T&C says deposit $500, does not specify if it has to remain in the account the whole time?
deposit 500, withdraw, repeat 4 times to meet the 2k/fee free criteria?

    • +3

I think it would be you just have to deposit $500 once and then you can take it out immediately to trigger the bonus.
The monthly account fee is $5 per month however it can be waived if you deposit $2000 into the account by the 25th of each month.
You also need to keep the account open for 45 days.

So the strategy would work like this:
      1. Open the account
      2. Deposit $2000 before the 25th, then take it out
      3. Deposit another $2000 before the 25th of the next month, then take it out again
      4. After you get the $50 credit which would mostly likely take about 45 days of the account being open, take that $50 out and then close the account.

It's a bit of work and up to you if it's worth your time or not.

      • Yeah a little bit of work, just 1) opening 2) setting up automatic scheduled payments. 3) check when theyve paid it out to transfer out

  • +1

Not worth my time for $50. $100 yes.

    • I got $75 for opening this account with Bank of Melbourne.

      • Same, they are rerunning the same offer currently but only for $50.

  • Yes you have to go to ANZ, did it last time and I had to wait for 1 hour, I was about to leave after 15 mins but figured I spent so much time opening the account and driving there I saw it through. For $50 it is not worth it unless you have nothing else better to do and I wouldn't bother again, in fact I probably am not eligible currently.

    • +1

What does this have to do with ANZ Bank?

  • +2

they'd get more good quality new accounts by removing the $5/mth fee than by giving away $50.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes them to send out your card?

    • +1

Pretty quick. I opened an account on the 2nd of Feb and the card arrived last week. Possibly on the 7th.

      • Well that sucks, I opened it over 2 weeks ago now and have not received a card.
Did you receive a shipping confirmation or anything like that?

        • +1

No shipping confirmation, just arrived in the mail in an unmarked envelope.

          • +1

@Fever4shakin: So after 19 days waiting I decided to go down to a branch and ask what was going on and it turns out that their stupid system somehow forgot to order the card!

  • +1

Tried to sign up but they couldn't verify my ID through Equifax. What a waste of time.

  • Got my sweet $50 reward bonus today. Thank you op

    • +1

Yeah me too - it wasn't really that hard to be honest thinking about it
Now I've just gotta close the account and hopefully that process is painless.

      • I already had credit card with them so for me it was just about 2 minutes effort.

      • +1

        Hey mate.

Did you do what you posted earlier like depositing $2000 then withdrawing it straight away and then doing it one more time to avoid the monthly fees?

I want to do this as well but not sure if i need to have at least $500 in there for the duration of the 45 days.

After depositing the money how long did it take for the $50 credit to appear in the account?

        • Hey there

As soon as I had the money in there, I withdraw it back out and I was never charged a monthly fee. I did this twice and got the $50 before the 45 days was up. For most of the time, the balance in this account was $0 except for during these transfers.

Once I got the $50, I transferred everything back out so that the balance was $0. Then I just rang them and closed my account without counting 45 days. The process was pretty easy, only taking a few minutes.

No issues so far and I doubt there will be. Once you get the money, just take it and close it off there should be no problem.

          Hope this helps.

          • @juicyg6: Thanks for this man.

I have recently opened my account but wasn't sure how best to do this.

I will now deposit $2000 today and transfer it back straight away and do it again next month.

Also good job for figuring out this idea. Great way to stick it to the banks! :)

    • I got mine too but it hasn't been 45 days for me. I'm unsure if I should take the money and bail or stick it out til 45 days?

  • +1

Got my $50 reward bonus today. Thank you OP

  • Is it possible to close this account via the app or do you have to call them or visit a branch to close the account?

    • I don't think the option is available with online banking as I was unable to find it but I could be wrong.
I would recommend giving them a call after you have a zero balance. It takes less than 5 minutes.

  • what's the easiest way to close the account?

    edit: answered above

  • It's more than 5 weeks and I still haven't received my $50 reward. What should I do?

    • call them up. shouldn't be more than 45 days.
