Braided USB Type-C and Micro-USB 1.5m Cable $6.99 and Lightning Cable $12.99 Each @ IKEA

790

Ikea is now selling braided cable at a good price for $6.99. Last weekend at Tempe(NSW) store I saw all three phone cables (Lightning, USB-C & Micro USB), but on the web, it is just showing USB-C and Micro USB cable. The cable is 1.5 m, slightly longer than the standard length of the cables that usually come with phones.

Update: Lightning to USB cord MFi (Made for iPhone) certified also available at $12.99

Ordinary price for an ordinary product. Where is the deal?

    • +8

How do you know they are ordinary? Have you tried any of them?

$7 is a good price for an MFI-certified lightning cable, and a decent price for a USB-C cable with proper specs. With the bonus of local stock with warranty (i.e. not having to wait for 3 weeks to 3 months for it to come from China). Only unknown is quality but IKEA's LADDA batteries are re-branded Eneloops so it's possible it's made by a decent OEM.

Why would you assume that they are mfi certified?

      • I agree it's a good price for a lightning cable.

To anyone who's after only a type-c cable, I instead recommend a ugreen type c cable, on sale all the time for a dollar from Joybuy, which takes under a month to arrive. I've got about 50, they're great and follow spec, yet to have a single one fail after many months.

At Tempe were the Lightning cables also $6.99?

    • +4

I believe they were for $9.99 1.5M braided cable and they are MFI certified.

  • +2

    were the lightning cables MFi?

    • +3

Yes, they are MFI certified. You can check the product details on Ikea Canada site.

      • Interesting.. $10 CAD… will it be $10 AUD?

        • Usually MFI-Certified costs more than one that isn't, so I'd expect the price to be $10

    • Where are the Lightning cables? not online

  • Hope it works with fast charger

    • "Can charge your devices at the maximum speed supported by your USB charger and your phone".

Has anyone compare this to the excellent BlitzWolf? The benchmark really is BlitzWolf and yes they're that good!

    • Same thoughts. First thing that came to mind was… "are these as good as Blitzwolf ones? or at least Benson Leung certified?"

    • i used to like "TikBro" cables,
but i cannot find them anymore on eBay.AU

      • +2

I used to have TikBro and it was shit

        • i had good experiences with TikBro 3-metre longs
i don't know where to get, good 3-metre long cables anymore

    • my car recently got broken into, the bastards stole my blitzwolf car charger!!

      • and nothing else?

    No assembly required??

    • Not everything requires an allen key.

      • That's not authentic IKEA then

  • Would be curious to see the performance of the USB-C cables, if can fast charge and operate @ USB3/3.1 Data speeds.

    • +2

The USB-C cable only supports 480 Mbps so that's a no to the latter, but it also claims "Can charge your devices at the maximum speed supported" so fast charge should be possible if you take that at face value.

      • +3

Yeh that kinda puts it into the "average" category I guess. I got a $2 cable from zapals that charges full speed also. Still not a bad deal if you're in a pinch and need a cable quickly I guess.

        • You can always return it (within 365 days, or life with family membership) if you find it doesn't meet your expectations.

Lol, Somebody always brings up Benson every time somebody posts USB-C cables.
As long as the cable has a 56k resistor then it is fine. Unsure if this one does, but assuming it comes from Ikea, it would have it.

Benson reviews were crucial when they first introduced the USB-C on phones. Since alot of cable manufacturers omitted the 56K resistor, so it would inadvertently draw too much power. Nowadays, this is less likely as most 'respected' manufacturers would adhere to the 56K Resistor.

    Do they come pre braided.

    • -1

      Yes? What do you mean?

    • +17

No, you have to braid them yourself. Just get your sister to help you.

      • Yep just ensure she doesn't tie it in a bun
