Laptop Stolen - Acquiring Serial Number from Store

Hi,

Our house got broken into last week and our laptop (purchased in early January 2011) was taken. On this occasion, we threw out the box and did not write down the serial number.

We still have the receipt with shows the date, time and purcharse information.

Would a retailer (JB Hi-Fi in our case) be able to supply us with the serial?

      Call the manufacturer up and ask them to see if they have your serial number as when you do the things for the warranty purposes you need the serial number, model number, name , address

      I'm sorry but the chances of that are very slim

      No - we didn't register this laptop.

      I called them (JB Hi-Fi) and they said they cannot trace the serial number with just a receipt.

      I felt that the guy I spoke to wasn't really interested in helping me so thought I'd check if the retailer can do this.
