How to Become a Microsoft Re-Seller?

I've been trying to navigate my way to becoming a licensed/registered microsoft re-seller, the process has been confusing and I haven't been able to find much information on it. Does anyone have any experience on this?

What software do you want to resell?
    Perpetual licenses or cloud services/subscriptions?

Sign up as a Microsoft partner on partnercenter.microsoft.com as an indirect partner and find a distributor to buy from.

    • just office products like 2016 professional home and student etc

Just buy from a distributor, no need to be a partner for that.

        • like who?

@Spennyrich: Two seconds on Google, you can find a distributor for anything in Australia or any other country for that matter.

            https://www.arnnet.com.au/distributor_directory/vendor/21418…

Synnex, Ingram and Dicker probably hold the largest range out of the lot.

            • @[Deactivated]: and so if i start casually selling online or on ebay i wont get in trouble?

              • @Spennyrich: Why would you if you're selling legitimate retail packaged product?

              • +2

@Spennyrich: I doubt you will make much money doing this.

              • @Spennyrich: Microsoft recently restructured the program for resellers selling cloud products so it's best to go with the suppliers Drew mentioned.

You'll have no issues with Microsoft selling online but you'll be competing against those who sell illegitimate licenses online. Like Volume License keys, MDSN keys and Office 365 accounts for very low prices. While an official distributor like those above will sell you a license not much less than what stores already sell theirs for.

For example one of my suppliers will provide me with a copy of Office 2016 Home and Business for $200, while TGG sells it for $259.

Still no harm in trying. A lot of people prefer to buy genuine anyway.

                • @Clear: Recently being four years ago…

To do cloud services you will need to be a partner.
Reading OPs previous threads, probably never going to come to anything.

                  • @[Deactivated]: You're thinking of something else. Last year Microsoft announced changes to their CSP program. Most Direct Partners now have to become Indirect Partners given the new requirements including sales quotas.

                    • @Clear: Nah, I am thinking of CSP.

The sales quotas have always been there for direct partners, but Microsoft did not enforce these until recently as the Microsoft subs had quotas for signing up direct partners. In turn they signed up a bunch of direct partners that couldn't sell a single seat, or we're absolutely incapable of even resetting a password.
Direct partners also now need to buy ASfP which is like $15k USD a year, this is kind of new.

                      • @[Deactivated]: So really the change is that they're enforcing their rules after all this time. Fortunately they're not requiring the 50k Premier support, but either way not affordable for OP and a lot of resellers.

                        • @Clear: Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Out of the 15,000 registered Microsoft partners in Australia this only really impacted less than 100 of them.
Absolute vast majority were indirect anyway.

    I've been through this.

Microsoft is a lot like a 1000 island archipelago of frustrating, abandoned and broken websites. They're often painfully slow and some will only work on IE.

The best advice I can give is to call Microsoft. They were really helpful.

Step one was finding out where to start at partner.microsoft.com or partners.microsoft.com ….

    • YES partners / partner …not just me!

  • Thanks!!
