Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II Compact Camera $466 @ Harvey Norman

170

Bought one of these this afternoon on a price match at JB HiFi (their price is $627 - more than from Canon direct) - and only just got home to enter, so sorry only one day left.

I know most people have smart phones and many have good cameras, but if you still want optical zoom, more mega-pixels and a few tricks the phones don't have, this is a good option - especially if you want small. (It will literally fit in your shirt pocket) This will connect to your phone via bluetooth or wi-fi so you can shoot using the phone as a remote and download pics to your phone. And - it has the 2nd to latest software (Digic 7)

Canon blurb:

The Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II has a 1.0-type 20.2MP CMOS sensor, letting you capture stunning photos and videos with superior clarity and detail even in various lighting conditions.
For crisp handheld shots with minimal blur, the PowerShot G9 X Mark II camera has a 5-Axis Advanced Dynamic Image Stabilization feature that helps reduce camera shake.
Capture clear, detailed photos or videos of distant subjects with ease, thanks to the G9 X Mark II camera’s 3x optical zoom lens*.
This Canon PowerShot Mark II camera has a 3” LCD touch panel with a Touch Shutter feature, so you can easily view captured images, select autofocus points, or take a shot by simply touching the screen.

Good price but as a FYI, it has been cheaper at Harvey and Amazon for $398 around Boxing Day last year.
I think Shopback had 10% back with amazon at the time too.

    • Damn. What’s the saying:- ‘buy in haste, repent at leisure.’

I can’t believe some outlets still list this camera at $700-plus. Guess they are not selling many. I suspect it is a segment that has almost disappeared with the competition from mobile phones.

      • You’ll also see the odd secondhand example getting close to or above these discount prices.

Still waiting for a deal on a G7x or G5x.

Yes the G7X looks very impressive with its features and better ISO. I just wanted something small to replace a dead IXUS.

My next target (if I am allowed) is the EOS R, or I might settle for a 6D.

          • @Public21: You need to own enough cameras such that when you purchase a new one, it goes unnoticed.

            :-)

        • There's been potential leaks of a G7X mkIII with 4K and external mic input… I have the mkII and it's fantastic, I use it for video mostly, but keen on a 4K version so maybe worth holding out a little if you can for any more solid news.

          • @camshandez: Rumours all last year said “expect announcement before or at CES”…

Will the mark 2 be retired, or just sold in parallel?

            • @GordonR: Seems that Canon retires the older model. Sony keeps on selling their RX”s.

              • @Banj0: And panasonic with their LX100 II; just a tidy up of the LX100. Sony's Mark VA is the same. We may be nearing the end of enthusiast compact cameras, alas. It's the sort of thing I take when I need to be more portable. I still use a Nikon P7800 for such things because nothing new enthuses me right now.

                • @poohduck: Ricoh GR III maybe? Ok…so not a zoom like these others…but perhaps that can make us better photographers…

          • @camshandez: Yes, saw that rumour (and pics). I’m in no great hurry, so will be keeping an eye out. If that happens, the question will be, get the MkII on discount, or wait for the MkIII to drop price…

  • Be aware - if you shoot outdoors on a normally bright day, you can't see a thing on the screen.
