Digital Heat Gun - Recommendations?

Now that most of the tablets and mobile phones are all glued together, I believe it would be wise to have a heat gun handy for anticipated repair in future.

I know and owned "dumb" ones from Masters/Bunnings which only have a trigger switch for high/low temperature control and nowhere I will know the accurate temperature range it will be.

I would like to see if you all have any experience using those readily available on ebay which cost around 40AUD delivered which claimed the temperature can be between 100c to 400c

Cheers

  • i use a $10 coles hairdryer for all my repairs (if required)

honestly wouldn't bother with anything more than that.

  • Try an 853D.

    • Just got a TS100 not sure if I should spend another 100 on a repair station.

  • I have been looking for very thin almost stringy double sided self adhesive rubber / tape as my device had that on the inside when I went "JerryRigging" inside it.

It goes on the edge of the screen and basically feels like very stringy putty and acts as a glue between the bottom of the screen and the internals / device itself.

Curiousity got the better of me and honestly I have put the search party for it on hold for now but yeah that is another option for screen glueing onto device repairs besides some heat gun and glue mixture.

    • I am actually looking at a way to ensure the temperature from the heat gun will not destroy the LCD screen while at the meantime enough to pry open the screen without destroy it.

Think about the screen for devices like Surface Pro 3 - e.g. if I want to replace the power button but still want to keep using the existing LCD screen.

      • Also the battery can easily be damaged by heat .

Maybe you'd be better off with a dumb heat gun and and a laser gun thermometer to measure the surface you're heating up?
