Replacing XPS13 Battery (Any Tips?)

An OzB favourite, picked up our XPS13 in a deal about 2 years ago but the battery recently died (plugged in not charging, take power out and shuts down) all signs point to needing a new battery through the diagnosis portal

Doesn’t look that hard to replace when looking at online walkthroughs, but wondering where I get the battery.
Any of the OzB community have done this themselves AND have you gone with an official Dell battery (seems to be $200 through their tech team) or a dif brand (anywhere between $70-150)??

Any pointers on the battery would be greatly appreciated

I have an older 2013 xps13 and it went through the plugged in not charging problem. First under warranty and Dell replaced the dc jack and it came good for a while. Out of warranty same problem, would randomly then consistently fail to charge. Went for new ebay battery for about $80 supposedly genuine but who knows?
Worked well for about 6 months then same problem. battery health was supposedly OK. Largely dont use this anymore so decided not to waste another $100 or so as the problem may be the motherboard so if needed I run it off AC.

As to replacing it was pretty easy following directions from one of the partspeople type sites. Good luck. If battery monitor says battery is stuffed then try the battery swap. if battery is OK maybe swap the DC jack which is pretty cheap?

    • yeh the steps look pretty easy, glad to hear some others have done it.
Will give it a go with a battery i can find locally rather than outlay for the Dell official at this stage.

Thanks for sharing, if replacement battery dies might look into DC jack

I have the m3800, similar design. I think there's diagnostics you can run at boot up in the BIOS for hardware - if it says battery then it would be.
My one was doing plugged in not charging and running extremely slow, all tests were fine. I replaced the DC jack and it's back to normal.
    $12 fix

    • damn $12 fix is ideal. The tests say battery req replacement so don't think i'm that lucky.
      Will see how replacing goes

If you are going to buy a one locally make sure you trust the business/seller. A few years ago I went through 5 batteries all from local businesses within a span of 6 months for my macbook.

Due to this experience I made sure I bought a genuine battery for my Dell XPS 13 this time around and chose to import a never used genuine battery pulled from a brand new XPS 13 from the USA for a total cost of ~$130.

  • Ask Dell to replace it first, it's might be still under warranty.

    • Dell (and from the looks of it,many) only cover batteries for 12m unfortunately

if removable battery, yes, if internal, should be same as the device.

          From Dell's website:

Batteries are considered consumable items, all batteries degrade with time and use. The warranty is very similar to common auto warranties which exclude consumable items such as tires.

Warranty is not the same as the device.
