Acer VG271U 1440 144Hz 1ms (VRB) IPS Monitor $635 (Shipped) @ Newegg

190

Was in the market for a new monitor for my new pc. Wanted a Freesync monitor that was 27" 144hz 1440p.

I found a couple:
ASUS MG279Q
Acer XF270HU
AOC AG271QX

But the same with all the other variants, they all used the same panel and these models were 3-4 years old now. Nothing new with these specs.

Then I found these new acer lineups. VG271U & XV272U. Looks like the XV is the same panels with the exception to better build quality. I'll be mounting it on a VESA so I do not care of the flimsy base

The good thing about these is that they are using the new innolux panels and none of that 3 year old AU Optronics (AH-VA) panels

Another good thing about this monitor is it has 1.07b colours vs the 3 yo AUO panels which is 16.7m

In total i spent 645$ with express shipping (standard was cheaper but a small bit) pretty decent as it looks like a bit cheaper than the 3 year old other alternative panels/monitors

Hopefully I hit the jackpot and get one with minimal blb and no dead pixel.

    • If you click on the link, it says it's 7% cheaper. Not the biggest discount, but it's there.

        • Please define "large reduction".

        • +5

The hell bro, the person seems to have done their research and this is the cheapest price they found ie. it's a bargain. And then they took the time to post it for no tangible benefit to themselves.

        • Your standards for bargains must be so high that you've never managed to post one yourself…

          • -2

@eediot: Thats exactly right, I do as people should when they don't have time to find real bargains - I don't post.

    • +5

theres 7% off you if check and classify normal price? you can only buy this newly released model on newegg. In terms of Australia accessibility.

For now this is the best IPS 27" 144hz 1440p freesync model you can buy until the LG IPS comes into production for the same specs, with their nano-ips displays

So in terms of people who are looking in the same position for me. This is indeed a bargain, especially when it cost less than the variants with a 3 year old panel.

        • +4

Like I said it is a bargain for me and any other person looking for a Freesync 27" 144hz monitor.

          Example: Asus MG279Q
This uses the outdated 3 yo ADVA AUO monitors and its more expensive.

This model I posted not only is it cheaper with the 7% discount but also uses the new innolux monitor and for the price is the best bang for your buck.

        • He's not negging lol, just responding to a question you asked. If you want to get overly defensive about it for no real reason, maybe ask yourself why you are attacking this post so much. At the moment you're 3 comments in and they're all voted down.

          • -7

@WillRay92: How do you know who he's negging, or anyone else for that matter? I never specifically accused him of negging me.
I couldn't care less if I'm being voted down, I'm not a sheep. I don't believe this is a bargain and I'm tired of seeing products with minor discounts being posted to the front page of a Bargain site. I'm entitled to express my opinion like everyone else and if you or anyone else feels like they want to vote me down for that then good luck to you.

  • So is this IPS that are comparable to TN for competitive gaming finally?

    • +2

Competitive yes, but if you play in the top leagues I would say no. Currently there is no IPS which would compare to the TN panels in terms of responsiveness. Although with the TN you are sacrificing colour and viewing angels to get that 240/1ms gtg.

AFAIK LG is creating an IPS with a true 1ms gtg. It was revealed in CES 2019. Although they had pushed back the release as they couldnt get the ms responsive right. Production supposedly going to start in Q2 2019 with release in Q3/Q4. For me I dont want to wait 1 year. So I chose the next best one which was this monitor.

Here is the extract i found in tftcentral

In the 27" space is the forthcoming LM270WQA panel, with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. It's was originally expected to go in to production around December 2018 but appears to have now slipped back to Q2 2019. We expect some of the reason for the delay in their high refresh rate IPS panels is struggles with response times. AUO managed to do a good job boosting response times on their equivalent AHVA IPS-type technology, but LG.Display have had more trouble it seems. There is talk from LG.Display about improvements in their IPS response times in their latest roadmaps, reportedly trying to improve on the current 5ms G2G spec, pushing down down to 1ms G2G thanks to higher levels of overdrive. It remains to be seen how successful this is in practice, and how much overshoot gets introduced but an investment in driving response times to accommodate higher refresh rates properly is certainly welcome and needed. It is probably that the recently announced LG 27GL850G will feature this new panel given it is marketed as a 'Nano IPS' screen (LG.Display's latest generation of IPS).

  • this monitor is it has 1.07b colours vs the 3 yo AUO panels which is 16.7m

Both Innolux and AUO are 1.07B.

    Are these G sync compatible?

    • No freesync, which is the amd version of gsync

Although! Nvidia are providing freesync support as of Jan 15th which was announced at CES 2019. YouTube reviews seem postivie.

      https://youtu.be/icJnTUAaB9Y

Also this monitor provides full freesync range 48-144hz

If you really want gsync. I suggest you wait all the current models have the AU optronics panels which is something you want to avoid for now. If you can wait, wait for the LG monitor which will be release later this year I mentioned in the above post. Expect to pay upwards of 1k when this comes out.

      • So what will become of Gsync?

        • Gysnc will still stay relevant. There are still many nvidia fan boys. Gsync monitors have a proprietary nvidia chip in them which is why they charge a premium of 200-400$ over a freesync model. Nvidia still recommends gysnc to get the full ability from their gfx cards. So it will still be offered especially in premium monitors.

  • Finally something most ozbargainers won't complain about

    • +4

This sux. I have an old XB271HU

      • Please elaborate. I may upgrade in the near future

      • Yours is the gsync model of the XF270. And I believe they use the same panel. So lol. How does this one suck? This old model is even more expensive then this Acer model.

  • Good find OP

Does anyone know if this works "well" with gsync (i.e gsync compatible without flickering etc?)?

I've had problems with the AU Optronics panels in the past (Bad color banding & Terrible Blacks etc)… There are rumours of new panels from AU Optronics (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/au-optronics-latest-panel-d…) but I doubt we will see these for a reasonable price before 2020.

    • +1

I doubt you would find a review on that, I have tried, this just recently came out.

Do you mean if Nvidia card works well on freesync? as this is a freesync monitor not gsync.

The overall consensus is that it works well on newer models. Older monitors of freesync caused some non desirable features.

I suggest you watch this https://youtu.be/icJnTUAaB9Y It's a good review of nvidia cards on freesync

      • Not sure if you are aware of this or not, but recently it was discovered that some freesync monitors can be used with Gsync instead. For people with Nvidia cards, this is obviously a great discovery. I think what coota1268 was asking was if anyone had tried to use it with Gsync instead.

  • Is there any indication of when this might arrive in Australia?

Always prefer to deal with local warranty especially with things like monitors.

Also personally waiting on the new AMD cards to arrive.

    • None that I see, I can see that it will release in Singapore in march for 636sgd. Other than that no news when it will be available in AUS

  • Stay away, Newegg with their new Chinese owners are the last place on earth I'd want to deal with when trying to return a monitor, and these high refresh IPS monitors are quite prone to having issues worth returning over.

    • -1

Why does it matter if they are Chinese? Couldn't you just say "with their new owners"?

      • Because they are? No need to be so melodramatic. I too have had a nightmare experience with their "support".

        • -1

I wasn't being malodramatic at all. I don't understand the need to include that in the statement unless it was trying to imply something.

          • @starburstyellow: Better check under your bed tonight for the boogeyman. Oh, and the closet. I'm sure you'll find something nefarious if you put in the same effort to seek offence.

            • @Xizor: Now you're just being condescending. I don't want to argue. I appreciate your concern about the bogeyman. I will check tonight. Thanks.

      • +3

Because it matters. Chinese culture does not view cheating, scamming and getting ahead by any means the same way ours does, and it translates directly to the way they conduct business.

      • +5

It’s not race that’s the issue, it’s culture. Very relevant.

    • +2

My experience with returns from them was pretty good. Don’t buy if you had a bad one.
