Trust me I was like you but this game has so much layers to it and so many ways to get ahead that you need some time to make your moves . Would not have worked with the normal RTS model

LOL. I think you're not understanding the genre of this game. It's like playing football manager v FIFA. People like them for their own style of gameplay. I wouldn't play Civ if it was RTS. There's already enough of those.
The whole premise of civ is that it's turn based.

My thoughts also. Got it for $62 on launch day and I wouldn't necessarily even call that a bargain. I'm sure it'll appear in sales soon enough.
I realise $72 isn't particularly cheap, but it's the cheapest I've seen for a few weeks now.

Very addictive game. I think it works exceptionally well on the switch.
Hard game to put down once you start.
I have found the switch version starts to slow down per turn around the 350 turn mark. Each turn seems to get slower
