I Know Teachers Can Get Cheap Health Insurance, Is There an Equivalent for Public Servants?

I'm a pube and need some work done soon, would be nice to get it cheaper if possible…

  • I am a public servant and our we get corporate rates through various Health Funds. I took advantage of Corporate cover and got a better deal through HCF than what I could get without being an employee.

I am pretty sure there is no specific Public Servant health insurance.

    • Could you tell me more about that? I've never heard of corporate cover before!

Speak to your HR department and ask them - they should be aware of all the funds they have an affiliation with .

      Teachers Health

      • thanks

      • is it actually cheaper and do you need to be a teacher?
(i have my cover with them - am not a teacher, and looked to change it up and found teachers health to be slightly more expensive as far as i could tell)

        • You don't need to be a teacher to use TH but teachers get cheaper cover through them than what you or I would pay.

    I'm a pube

What an odd nickname for yourself/your occupation. Is this a commonly known/used term?

Is this a commonly known/used term?

It is in Canberra, but not sure about anywhere else?

Just a Canberra thing I think. Gotta have some self awareness and take the mickey if everyone's going to think you're an elitist anyway.

  • If your organisation is linked to Defence you can access ADF Health Insurance as an affiliate.

    • Not linked to defence unfortunately!

If you're a member of the union (not sure what it is in Canberra but the PSA in NSW) you can get a deal through them as well.

Dont know much about all health insurance options, but My dentist said teachers health insurance is one of the best. I required expensive major dental work (4k implant) . Seems teachers insurance would have covered it best.

  • Geez, expensive premiums. What quotes have you been given from TH and how do they compare with other quotes with same levels of cover?

  • It’s not that much cheaper but it all helps, and it’s good to support them (Teachers Health).

  • It's not cheaper at all unfortunately.
