Really hope you mean the mercury levels of the thermometer, not the product… ;)

    • +4

Still learning English. I really mean the thermometer levels. I bought few and thought worth sharing here mate 😎

      • So everybody like it raw?

  • +2

I wonder if there's any credible evidence to suggest that coconut water hydrates any better than water.

    • +9

Coconut milk/water is one of those paleo/weirdo/no-science-to-back-it-up type of things

    • +3

I think the evidence shows that you have to drink more coconut water to get the same hydration as regular water.

Having said that it’s a nice change from plain water when you drink as much plain water as I do.

    • +1

I heard that only activated coconut water works better than non-activation coconut water, just like activated water…

      • +6

So how do I activate this thing?? Also, Can I port-in Port-out? :D

        • +2

Go online and register to activate

    • It definitely makes me question the commitment of some members here to ozbargain when they're buying this sort of product.

Coconut water contains ~95% water, so there's no real difference compared to plain water. I doubt there's any situation where an additional small sip of water would have any critical impact.

Coconut water has an advantage in that it comes with some electrolytes. So if you're working hard on a hot day sweating away heavily for hours, coconut water might be better than just plain water. And while it has some sugar, it's not loaded with it like sports drinks.

      • +5

Urine is also 95% water. Just sayin'.

        • +5

Urine trouble if u drink it tho

          • +2

@krezii: Obviously it wouldn't be my number one choice.

        • Sadly, many people all over the world routinely drink urine.

Yeah, it can save your life in extreme circumstances (looking at you Bear Grylls), but just about every other reason to do it is crazy. Don't do this at home, kids.

        • Its 41 degrees Celsius. Better drink my own pee.

Coconut water has an advantage in that it comes with some electrolytes.

Electrolytes in water are no advantage at all in most cases. Certainly none for the average supermarket shopper who is already consuming too much water everyday and has no shortage of electrolytes already.

        It's got what plants crave

      • +1

yes, kinda like how chimpanzees and humans share 99 percent of their DNA.
        no real difference

        • I seen better behaved chimps than some hoomans.

    • I think it depends what you are doing.

      I like it for cycling.
It sits right in between water and an electrolyte based drink
Has potassium and other goodies but not as much sodium as a sports drink

So good for times where you are gonna sweat but dont wanna chug down too much salt

    • Its got natural electrolytes

Health BS, and this brand having a loony as its ambassador aside, I find this brand the best tasting by far.
I use to think all 100% coconut water taste the same and didn't believe the comments until tried a few other brands. I'll be stocking up :)

    • I find the best tasting one is H2coco pink.

This is sugar water, if you want coconut water then crack your own coconut and drink

    • +5

Ain’t nobody got time for that.

    • +4

      No it's not

    • You buy your own coconut for $3 and you get 5ml out of it. Here you get 1L for $2.5

      • Probably more like 200ml-300ml in each fresh coconut.

    • I would be sweating n stinking after that. Plus it takes time for the coconut tree to grow

    • crack your own coconut and drink

      That's what this is

  • +1

Save another $2.50 per pack by just drinking water (sans coconut) and get properly hydrated?

  • +2

Hmmm, you know what's missing in my life? Massive diarrhea. Off to drink 1L of coconut water!

    • +1

nah you're confusing this with prune juice

      • No. No Im not.

        You'll see soon enough.

        • +1

You probably had a bad batch. I've been drinking this daily for months and no "ill" affects

          • @yoshi864: nah bro, you're just lucky.

It's a known effect of coconut water. I even had a co-worker from Mauritius warning me one day when I wandered in with some. He reckoned everyone in his home town constantly had the runs cos of the stuff.

    • I had a similar thought when I read OP's suggestion for staying hydrated in the current heat, "this is not a sound plan."

  • +1

Its label says Product of Vietnam.

    • The OP didn't say this is from the US. Vietnam has lots of coconut and rubber plantations and you can get few products made out of coconut plants.

    • Where Australia has people walking around in thongs Vietnam has trees with coconuts. They are so abundant there even before you count the plantations.

    • The best tasting coconut water comes from Vietnam. My brand of choice is Pure Coco Coast. Comes in plastic bottles instead of these tetra packs and can often be had for $3 per 1.5L bottle.

  • +4

crappy. these coconut water things are are UHT treated(like the cheapo milk 1 dollar milk) with the benifit of soft thin plastic liner leeching inside the carton. whereas the young coconut you can buy at markets is fresh juice and the soft white white pulp inside can be scraped and eated and it is extremely tasty and probably very healthy. about the same price 2.50. also you get about 2 glasses of juice or half a litre out of one if you choose carefully .

    • +2

Hard to find a good young coconut, they can be hit and miss in quality. So delicious when you can find a good one!

    • +2

you cannot get 500ml from one coconut in Australia

    • these coconut water things are are UHT treated

That's so you can drink it after it gets here from Vietnam and not get sick.

like the cheapo milk 1 dollar milk

Cheap because it doesn't need to be refrigerated.

with the benifit of soft thin plastic

Keeping the liquid in the container while keeping bacteria out.

      liner leeching inside the carton

The liner is made from PET. PET doesn't leech BPA.

  • +1

I have to add that the 2L version of this tastes disgusting and totally different to the 1L ones

    • I second that.
2L is rubbish. It tastes like sugar water with artificial taste. No where close to coconut.

  • +1

Coconut water is better than tap water or milk for making smoothies in my opinion.

I also like it as a chilled drink but preferably when I can get it for $1/L (from Rite Price).

  • +1

Aldi usually has coconut water for $3 year round, another good options for when others aren't on sale
