Getting New Game Releases Early

Just interested on peoples experiences with getting new game releases early. I'm going to try Monday the Australia Day public holiday calling my local EB Games and I hope that street day is broken for Kingdom Hearts 3. Hopefully i can get my hands on this game for the public holiday. As many have, i have been waiting for since i was a 10 year old.

When Skyrim was release i remember getting it on the 10/11 a whole 1 day before it was meant to be release on the 11/11/11.

that street day is broken for Kingdom Hearts 3

I already have it … willing to sell for $999.

  • Happened to me once, and most common way it happens, is when you pre-order from someone and they post it out early (so that it arrives on release day) but post is faster than expected.

  • Extremely unlikely to happen in store. Slight chance of getting it early if delivered from Amazon but you also risk getting it late. If you're desperate to play it as soon as it releases then buy it digitally and pre-load it if available so you can play at midnight

How old are you now, 11?

    • Grammar is a little better than 11 years old, I'm calling 15. You're going to be somebody.

No lol the secret endings at the end of Number 2 showed Xehanort. so if the game came out when i was 10 that would make me 22

Oh I have no idea what any of that means but good luck to you.

  • Street Date broke on a previous Kingdom Hearts title however I doubt it's going to happen for this one, especially on a public holiday. Those employees are happy as hell to be getting paid penalty rates for the day.

It's easy enough to do. If you have Target/ Big W or Kmart stores near you head in there a couple days before release (they'll have it out the back) and tell them your friend picked up a copy at the same franchise but interstate. Has worked for me with Marvel's Spider-Man, God of War and AC: Odyssey.

    • Good Idea might have to try that.

      • The times I tried it were also on older women who had no idea about games/ release dates.

The key is for them to have the stock and even when she scanned it in she advised me that it shows "embargoed to XXX do not sell prior." I just said that was its old release date and she ignored the prompt and sold me the game. haha

        • Wow you're a jerk haha

@Faro: Worked in retail for nearly 6 years at a gaming retailer in that complex. people took what I said as gospel..

  • smaller stores would be another option

but remember no epiloge or ending until street date

    • Thats okay if it really does have 80 hours of gameplay i wont be finishing it for a little bit.

  • Release dates are coded into some newer games so even if you can get a copy it won't work until the time and date of your system set and verified by online servers) reach the game release date. So no point worrying about trying to break street date on a modern console

Seems a bit extreme … would make it a nightmare to cater for reviewer, journalists, etc.
