Welcome, New Balance! Always good to see major brands joining OzBargain.

I suppose this is a good place to ask: Why are your prices in Australia so much higher than in the US or UK?

    To give one example:

You're selling the WR993BK on sale for $234.00 shipped: http://www.shopnewbalance.com.au/newbalance/product/WR993BK
The exact same shoe is available at eastbay.com for $140.88 shipped by UPS (~5 days to Australia), using the coupon LKS1DELL at checkout: http://www.eastbay.com/product/model:97496/sku:9930307/new-b…

Most of the shoes I see on your site are 60-80% more expensive than buying the exact same shoe from eastbay.com or other similar online retailers, even with this 10% discount. Why doesn't New Balance in Australia pass on some of the savings that comes from a strong Australian dollar to its customers?

    • Yeah we pay too much than US/UK :(

    • its market relevant. people in aus are willing to pay… if only i could make a shoe at cp for $10 and customers were willing to pay $200 for it…

      but dang 10%?! Kammaaannn!!

    • Hi jump22,

Thank you. It is great to be here. I will try to post our promos here as best as I can. I understand your and some other users' concerns about our prices compared to some other retailers that ship from other countries. However, I would kindly like to remind you that global prices can vary due to transportation costs, import fees, regulations, and local market expectations. Local shopping is convenient in that it provides a much better shipping timeframe and helps you avoid import/duty fees. In fact I have seen seen import/duty/tax fees to be over 50% of the cost of the product when it is purchased from another country. Please read EastBay's disclaimer about international orders (http://www.eastbay.com/customerserv/help:shipIntlCharges/). Here is a paragraph from that page:

      "International Customs Charges and Duties
International (outside the USA) customers must pay applicable sales tax, duty and Customs charges. Your local government determines duty and Customs charges, which varies by country. Duties, taxes and/or Customs fees will be an additional amount that will be collected upon delivery of your order. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with the exact amount you will be charged. Your order confirmation details only the charges we are collecting. Contact your local government for specific details."

As you can see clearly , $140 is not the final price you will pay when you order the product. It will most likely be 50% or even higher than that.

Also, again according to their disclaimer (http://www.eastbay.com/customerserv/help:returnUsInternation…): "International shipping and handling is 25% of the net order total or a minimum of $32.99." So add another approximately $35 to your price. They also don't reimburse for return shipping in case you need to return the shoes. That might be quite expensive since you will be responsible for customs, duties, taxes and any other applicable charges.

Long story short, you will probably be paying about the same amount of money if not less after you add all costs if you buy the shoes on www.shopnewbalance.com.au. You qualify for free shipping because 993 is above the free shipping threshold and you won't pay anything for return postage if you want to exchange or return the shoes. I can almost guarantee that you will receive the shoes sooner from us because we have a warehouse where we ship our products in Australia. I hope this explanation makes sense. Thank you for your interest!

      Moreover,

      • As you can see clearly , $140 is not the final price you will pay when you order the product. It will most likely be 50% or even higher than that.

So add another approximately $35 to your price.

No, ~$140 is the FINAL price including shipping and customs charges:

US$134.99 for the shoes + $32.99 shipping (by UPS) - $20.25 coupon (using the coupon LKS1DELL at checkout — "15% off your order of $75 or more") = US$147.73 = $137.52 Australian dollars, going by today's exchange rate.

There are no customs charges or duty or tax to paid on this order when importing to Australia, because Australia has a $1000 duty-free threshold for packages: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp#Duty

So, $137.52 versus $234.00, which is nearly a $100 difference for the 993. And there isn't much difference in shipping time because Eastbay ships by UPS, which is 5 days to Australia going my past buying experience — it actually wouldn't surprise me if the Eastbay order got here sooner.

with the current exchange rate there is absolutely no excuse for why prices are so expensive in Australia.

oh good i'll just visit my local hong kong new balance outlet. i feel like take away anyway..

  • For those in Sydney - there is a New Balance outlet store (290 Botany Rd, Alexandria - near Botany Road) which has good prices and variety for shoes and NB clothing - its generally where I buy all my NB shoes because I prefer to try them on. And the Sunbeam outlet is just a couple of blocks away (110 Botany Rd), if you want another reason to visit Alexandria.

Not a bargain. www.wiggle.co.uk has far cheaper shoes.

    • even buying from amazon is cheaper, just got asics gt2150 for $70 delivered.

    Sorry about caps lock

  • 10% off completely unjustifiable prices does not equal a bargain.
