Are these fast enough for 4k video and photos on a Mavic Pro?

      • +4

I don't think you can go by those 'articles'. I used to make them myself years ago. They're just poorly written Amazon referrals. The fact that every one has a link to Amazon is usually a good indicator.

    • +3

Realistic Read\Write is between 20-30MBs so ample for 4k.

      • Hmmm, I'm reading that the Pro/Platinum records at up to 60MB p/s so I guess it's not really perfect

        • +1

Mavic Pro bursts to less than 10MBs these cards burst to 10x that 100 MBs so a walk in the lpark. Sustained is a lot less, but still way more than the Magic Pro requires.

    • Yes. Use this with a GoPro at 4K no issue

I use a sh*tty SanDisk on my Mavic pro. No issues recording and shooting photos. This is good enough

    • Bought this a few days ago.

  • Thanks op, got to go in my brothers GoPro 3, I want to buy a GoPro for motorbike riding on the road, any other GoPro users think I should go straight to 7 black or are 5-6 worth it?

I wish I got the 7 black when it was around $400 :(

    • +2

If you're buying now you should get the 7 black. The image and stabilization in the 7 black are ridiculously amazing. Wait for another deal, and if you have to get an older model then get the 6 black. I bought the 5 black about a year or so ago and wished I didn't.

    • +1

The 7 Black has an amazing stabiliser but you’ll find it’s not good for motorcycle riding - I’ve never used it on mine since it makes the footage look ‘floaty’. Does have a higher quality HDR video over the 6 and 5.

If you can grab it for $400-450, go for it, otherwise grab the 5 Black for $300 or less. Don’t bother with the glitchy 6.

      • Thanks for the replies, what glitches did you encounter with the 6 blonky? I guess I would be leaning towards the 6 because it does 4K60fps, interesting about the stabiliser not being that good for motorbikes.

Wondering if your glitches may have been device specific.

  • Do you think there are fake Samsung ones floating around?

Also, why are microsd's cheaper than sd's now sometimes?

    • The manufacturing is fully automated. The machine makes and packs them. Saw it on YouTube. So the cost constraint is just the BOM and transport.

why are microsd's cheaper than sd's now sometimes?

I would hazard a guess that many more micro-SD card are sold than full-size SD cards.

A main use for SD cards is mobile phones, they only take the micro cards. Most other things that use SD cards, like cameras, now also take micro-SD cards. And for those devices that don't, there are always $1 adapters.

I'm surprised that the full-size cards are still sold at all. There is no difference in performance between a full-size card and a micro card by the same manufacturer, so why would you buy a full-size card instead of a micro card with adapter?

      • well they used to be more expensive, which made sense because of the size. (i cannot actually fathom how they are fitting so much space in so little space.)
but now i don't know. except doesn't the adapter add an extra step and slow the speed? SD's come in different speeds do microsds?

        • +1

The adapter is just a socket for the micro SD, and wires (PCB tracks). There is no electronics in the adapter, so it doesn't alter the performance at all.

A micro SD is exactly the same as a full-size SD, except for the size, and full-size SD cards have a write-protection slide. The full-size SD card also has one extra pin on the connector, but it isn't used.

  • Does anyone know how these would go in an IP cam? I'm thinking of installing some dahua or hik and would like to install decent sized sd cards in them. Or is there a better range to handle the constant writing involved with using an sd in these applications?

    • I want to buy Some Hiks too and upgrage to IP. Whats the benefit of SD card when you are using an NVR? Is it mainly used to avoid the need for an NVR?

      • No, its more a case of redundancy. There was a case I read about where crims broke in and stole the NVR. Unfortunately for them, they were also recorded on a card in the cameras. I'm not expecting anything quite as dramatic - hopefully because the cameras are enough of a deterrent in the first place, but $30 for some redundancy in case the day that I need the recordings just happens to be the day that the NVR plays up seems like an ok deal for at least one or two of my planned cameras.

    • Yep but 128gb is usually the limit for hk

  • Nice. Ordered 2 for my Tascam audio recorders.

  • Is this a good one for the Nintendo Switch?

    • +2

Yes, been using it in my switch for a while now, never had a problem

  • Can't wait for 512GB to go sub $100. My 128GB will do till then.

  • 32gb, 64gb and 128gb for Evo+ have run outta stock

  • I still need one for homebrew on the 3ds, shame 64 is sold out ;(

  • 32G is enough for me

  • Deal is back on
