New Piano - As Cheap as They Come

My wife's set on the idea of getting a piano, and after having old 2nd hand ones in the past, she's now angling for a new one so she can get warranty and free delivery, tuning, etc.

Even a cheaper Japanese piano is around the 5 grand mark though, and obviously I'm on OzBargain, so I'd love to know the cheapest options for a new piano.

Not when she going to get half of his

      • Or he'll get half of hers, it could be a double win..

That's a digital piano. I think the OPs missus wants a real one.

Why $5,000? Why not $2,000 or $20,000? It seems oddly specific. Pianos are a lot like diamonds - they cost a lot to buy, but hardly get anything when you want to sell them.

I have no idea, I didn't add that to the title… I'm looking for the cheapest (half-decent) new piano there is. I sure as heck don't have a budget of $5k!

Would she consider a digital piano (with proper weighted keys, pedals, etc ie., not a keyboard)? If not, I would definitely recommend going and trying some to see if you could convince her otherwise. It will be much kinder on your wallet (Roland F-140s are about $1,400), and you don't have to worry about servicing, tuning, moving, etc. For context: I have a Roland F-110 that is almost 8 years old, has survived just as many moves and even a flood and still plays as beautifully as the first day I got it.

    • Hi.. any thoughts on Yamaha P-125 vs the one you recommended? Also, do we need to buy the frame, stand, pedals and chair separately or do they sell whole set as well? Any recommendation for the best price store/ online?

  • if you want the real deal, get her an australian made stuart.

  • Just get a Gumtree freebie and have it serviced + tuned.

What was wrong with the old second hand ones to make her want to go for a new one?
My understanding is that old pianos are very sturdy, the only thing that might break is the strings which it would be cheaper to have that fixed than purchase a new one, right?

Second hand is literally your only option. I've looked at new pianos too and 5k is a nothing budget. It was 20k before we saw anything my husband would even consider placing his performance certified fingers on.

    • My mate has a Stuart & Sons. Best piano I've ever heard.

      • yeah, they are some of the best, but way out of budget for OP.
        is your friend a musician?
