Have you actually used this brand? I've gone thru maybe two bags so far (20 KG) and haven't had any issues. Way better than heat beads / firebrand and no different to the other "lump charcoal" that's out there. I got about 60 KG of this in the garage and at $12.50 I'll be at Bunnings tomorrow to buy another 40 KG. That should last me until the end of 2019.

      • 100KG of charcoal, that’s a lot of BBQ, wish i was ur neighbour :-)

      • What style of bbqing?

        • Mixed. Smoked Ribs, Brisket. Awesome smoked whole chooks (Inghams chooks are the best) with beer can up the arse. Also Do lamb spit etc.

Not hard to go thru 10 KG bag if you're doing a lot of meat say 15 KG and cooking for 10-12 hours.

you would be the only person on any bbq forum or group that I've seen with that opinion

if it works for you, great.. but id suggest others to try one bag before going all out and buying a heap

      • I've found most cheap lump to be mangrove out of Asia that tastes like crap. Robot turds mixed with Aussie hardwood lump gives a good result for spits and grilling. Anything but mangrove with a few chunks for long smokes.

Anyone know what wood they make this from?

        • So I think Indo swamp wood is really nice with lamb, not bad with beef, but terrible with chook. I actually chuck some in with Malley root when cooking lamb these days, as it's nicer.

    • I've used a couple of bags of this one and a few other brands of lump wood charcoal and quality/taste hasn't been an issue. Perhaps it was something else that made your food taste ordinary

      • perhaps type of bbq makes a difference

speaking from Kamado forums/groups and similar feedback

  • I haven't used it but I have heard it's crap

    • Maybe it's the cook.

I use this brand for Texas low n slow and no one eating the food says anything else besides how delicious the food is. I use Apple and hickory & redbark wood and few others if they are on special

  • Excellent charcoal for bbq

  • Used it last night and no issues, good smell easy light up my only issues in a last bag there was lots of small pieces and dust.

    • opposite here, bloody huge bits that needed to be taken too with a hammer.
found it burnt really quick also

  • Decent lumpwood charcoal.. mainly use red gum charcoal but have this in case I run out of red gum..

try mixing it in (assuming it's swamp wood) next time you're doing lamb, I quite like the flavour.

  • How long is this price for.

  • I use this - https://www.bunnings.com.au/char-griller-5kg-lumpwood-charco… and its pretty nice with lamb skewers on an open BBQ.

  • what's good for steaks?

GODDAMN THE PRICE WENT UP BEFORE I COULD BUY

    • I went into my local today and they were still on sale.
