Man bags... yes or no?

I have my reading glasses, sunglasses, phone, keys, wallet, and whatever else to carry everytime I leave my house. I hate having things in my pockets.

Are man bags acceptable these days?

Maybe like this… https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mens-Tactical-Military-Messenger…

Exactly, of course the answer is yes.

It's a slippery slope to no socks and capris pants.

    • Or to socks and crocs/Jesus sandals… Pastel polo shirt and beige cargo pants…

      • short sleeve shirt and a tie
        .

        • You forgot the Pastel Shorts

I prefer to use a brown fake leather fanny pack. Good conversation piece.

I prefer to use a brown fake leather fanny pack.

I always get guys trying to hit on me if I wear one.

Make sure you get one that looks like ones in the 4th row of the eBay ad picture. Then you will look like every drug dealer. Wear all Adidas for clothing for the full look.

A small backpack looks much better than the bags you've linked.

  • +2

Eh, I voted no, but looking at the pictures it doesn't seem too bad, having a bag in the back is just like a backpack, and the other one looks like a satchel bag which I think looks alright as well. I'd probably say the laptop style bags work too. Guess it depends the bag.

Are man bags acceptable these days?

Yes if you have matching man boobs.

      Welcome back, Scab! :D

Do what you want. Whose going to judge?

    • +3

The group of guys beating the crap out of you.

      • +5

The Gillette ad has resolved any issues like that happening again…

  • +1

Go for it. I wouldn't care if you wore a dress either. It's not my place to judge.

Of course it is. Anyone who says otherwise is a weak, insecure loser.

  • They seem to be popular overseas, saw heaps of men wearing them in London and Bangkok (mainly Tourists) last year. Not so common in Oz, so it's definitely a trend that hasn't taken off here.

  • Only women carry that many things with them

  • I say get it, it's 7% off!

These days with the plastic bag ban, we're all having to carry the reusable shopping bags anyway, so chuck your stuff in there and save your money for other goodies

  • Hand bags are for women.
    Get a small backpack.

  • Phone, keys and wallet usually fit into your pockets, except perhaps when sitting down.

So is it really just your glasses?

Some days when I have more to carry, I use one of those:

  • phone, keys, wallet

Correct order is phone, wallet, keys.

It used to be so easy
With my phone, wallet, and keysy

  • The man has a Crumpler satchel; picks it up and he is ready to go. I have a smaller crumpler bag and do the same thing. No more holes in his pockets due to keys, etc and he doesn't look like Dirk Diggler due to the amount of crap he is carrying in his pockets. (Which some guys probably think is a negative).

  • I vote yes.

But if I go out by myself I like to carry minimal stuff & no bag, I have a slim wallet (usually just licence, go card & bank card - maybe a $20 note), my house key (singular), maybe car key, & maybe sunglasses. Those go in my pockets & on my head. I mostly use my smartwatch as my phone/mobile device so that's on my wrist.

If I'm out with my child (I.e. every weekend) then I carry a small messenger bag with wipes, change of clothes, etc.

If I'm going to work I take a nice messenger bag that fits a 13" laptop.

I like the messenger vs backpack because it's easy to access without taking off (handy with a child, or to get my sunglasses/access card/etc.) & I think it looks nicer as a work bag.

My I, humbly, suggest you look into something like this. I carry one in my small crumpler bag and it gives me the option for a backpack if I buy something from,e.g., the supermarket. I don't have this particular variety but I have a Lewis and Clarke similar one. They are quite strong and it is good to have the option, if you need it. They squash down to about the size of a rolled up pair of socks.

Get an adidas fanny pack, good for storing your smokes

    • +1

Seriously, you tuck them in the sleeve of your t-shirt; do you know nothing?

      • +3

singlets dont have sleeves and there are no pockets in my footy shorts.
1 behind the ear is ok if only going out for a half hour or so, otherwise will have the bum bag

        • +1

Stick the pack down your shorts, make you look more manly.

Yes. Carry a bag. Get whatever style you like - who cares what other guys think or whatever the stereotypes are.

So sick of this idea that men don't need or shouldn't carry bags. You're only inconveniencing yourself pointlessly.

FWIW I carry a small backpack pretty much everywhere I go. Even women's handbags are too impractically small and annoying to carry for me.

    • Came here to say the same thing. I have about 6 different bags, each with a different purpose and couldn't give a rats if someone has a dig. They're almost always the ones who then whinge later about having to carry something, or not having something they want with them.

The number of times I've been glad to have my bag with some tissues or a disposable raincoat is enough to handle the odd dig about a 'man bag'.

      Seriously, get over yourselves.

That said… if you are wearing an Adidas bumbag diagonally across your chest, I'm def going to assume you're a wannabe drug dealer

  • Get whatever you like and suits what you need. If anyone actually ends up caring, they need to find a real hobby.

I see people with all sorts of bags. One guy at work even uses a super old Woolies bag (one of their original canvas reusable ones), and the only reason why I noticed was because I was like "I remember that, haven't seen it in years."

  • Yer.. nahh ..

  • Yes, but those bags are absolutely gross. Just get a nice understated backpack and take that with you, no stress. Then you can have a bottle of water and a shopping bag and a snack or whatever with you at all times!

  • Yes i know many people over 55 who has an expensive man bag.

  • +1

I think messenger bags look great on guys. Its good to see they're prepared, and are confident enough not to care what others think

    • It doesn't hurt if they are actually being carried by fit, young guys who ride a bike.

  • Yes. Definitely ok!!!

Get one you feel comfortable with. Also if you like the across body one get one. I use a handbag with long shoulder strap so that I CAN put cross body, means I’ve still got two hands to use and don’t accidentally put down and forget to pick up as constantly falls off shoulder. Plus no pulling down with an iPad or heavy bottle of water in bag that’s bad for back.

  • Why not just get a sporran?

  • -1

I accidentally voted no when I meant to vote yes, can you really not change your vote after hitting it? Pretty shit UX.

Anyway, of course it's acceptable. Wear whatever the hell you like. This is the worst website to ask tho, seem to be a lot of angry people stuck in the 80s on this website.

  • Wear what you want but seeing as I wear a watch and a Fitbit maybe don't listen to me…

  • ….as long as you don't wear the bag like a woman, you'll be alright…..

  • In the right style yes of course. Since laptops became the norm lots of guys carry around messenger style bags.
From the listing I would go with the one on photo 36 or #6 black.
It must be cross body and not too many buckles or added things you don't need - like a belt? First and second rows are no go and the image of the guy carrying one - it looks a little too effeminate for mine.
Good luck and enjoy the freedom of empty pockets!

  • the wannabe bikie fashion accessory

  • Worn across the body is fine. You'll get a few heckles with one worn only over a single shoulder.

    • By guys who aren't secure in their masculinity and think they have the right to hassle others - yeah that sounds about right.

      • It takes a big man to wear a man-bag, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

BTW I'm not secure in my masculinity and have no urge to laugh at man-baggers. I'm too worried about my chicken legs and bald patch. Not all stereotypes are accurate.
