Pretty keen on one myself, obviously will have to test drive it, but looks like a great buy!
New Jimny - anyone going to buy or test drive? What are your initial thoughts?
Comments
Only four times the price and two times the fuel.
I'm a simple man. I see LC70, I upvote.
Buy a G-wagon instead.
Only consider the 6x6 version thanks
G5 is the goodie
Buy a Unimog instead
how much?
.I believe 26-27k for a manual, not sure if official pricing is out yet though.
4x4 with a high and low range?
That is great value
Yep and fantastic off road credentials too. Angles are great, it's light and narrow. Absolute mountain goat.
how long is the waiting list , 1 year ?
It looks pretty cool, a lot cheaper than a G Class.
For other like me, it is Suzuki jeep
Depends entirely on the speed stripes.
Looks like a lot of fun. Hope it is a roaring success so can buy a second hand one in years to come!
I mean, but not too much of a success, otherwise it turns into a classic/collector's item and it becomes more expensive even used down the track…
Looks like a great fun car, but pretty underpowered from what i've read and not sure I could live with the day to day driving characteristics of it. Always loved them though and would be keen for a test drive. They will be good buying in a few years time on the used market. I heard they will be high 20's for a base model new, I would only be keen on the top spec.
pretty underpowered from what i've read and not sure I could live with the day to day driving characteristics of it.
Absolutely agree with this and hence looking at the new Wrangler JL coming soon. 1.5L 75kW is a joke of an engine, will be loud, rough and awful to drive daily.
It weighs nothing, 1.5L is plenty for a tiny car.
Not at the poor power output it produces, it’s really not. Even the 1.0L Ford Ecoboost engine produces 92 kW.
@Hybroid: What do you mean 'even'? The Fiesta weighs roughly the same as the Jimny and has 20% or so more power. The Fiesta is a pretty zippy car. No one is saying the Jimny will be fast, but all the reviews I've seen say it's fine.
@[Deactivated]: And you certainly don’t want a low torque high revving engine in a 4wd in rough terrain. Being able to use low revs really makes it easier when you are crawling around in the rough stuff. 75kw is probably enough - but it depends on torque.
@Euphemistic: It has 130nm of torque - 20nm more than the previous model. Considering how much of a success the previous model was off-road, and that the new model has way more 4wding tech, I doubt it will be an issue. Also, it's literally what the car is made for.
What exactly were you expecting? This is how the Jimny has always been, and the Sierra before it. The are a small, light, low powered 4wd that is extremely capable. They aren't high on creature comforts.
Not sure if it's wider than the older models but even being only 168cm talk I found the cabin too narrow.
I'd test drive it if I can take it offroad
I had a Sierra last century. Great little 4wd. If i was looking for a new small car to go off road I’d be well up for a test. Sure, it won’t pull like a race car, but it’ll probably cope with traffic no worries. Only thing I’d be concerned was if I neeed to regularly use it on the highway, the old Sierra was pretty much flat out at 110km/h.
I think I remember the pencil thin exhaust, maybe of the 2 stroke?
Mine was a 1.3L 4cyl, around 1991 model and carby if I remember correctly. The two strokes were lucky to get to 80 afaik.
Don't forget to add the Liberty Walk body kit

It just got a 3 safety star rating. Yikes.
Check it out in detail though. It's just because it's missing driver assist things and active safety.
Safety ratings are a bit skewed now toward driver assist stuff. I think a car is safe if it will protect me in an accident. ANCAP thinks a car is safe if it will stop a driver getting in an accident.
If you check your mirrors and don't sit on your phone you'll be right.
I swear some of the technology is not a safety feature, but enablers for lazy driving.
I read there's an issue with airbag where there's a chance you can still hit your head on the steering wheel.
If they made it 5 star, I’d buy one in a second. But it’s just very poor for this day and age.
Still way better than jeep Wrangler 2019 which is only 1 star

Heads up - the global configurator has been up for a while now. Just click '360 VIEWER' through this link - https://www.globalsuzuki.com/automobile/lineup/jimny/index.h…

Hey! How the heck did you get there?! Nice one, thanks mate.
You gonna buy one?
I read the Motoring guide to this. Great to see the small 4x4 spirit living on still!
Best part to read, last model holds the world altitude record, at over 6000m height (exact figure I forgot), but the Chilean driving crew collected a souvenir on the way back down with them… "the sign Jeep left showing their record height"… I laughed quite hard at that one.
Great little cars, drove my sisters' Sierra (rebadged as a Holden Drover) all over my parents hilly bush acreage. Just kept on pulling over scrub and hidden potholes.
I wish Toyota would do a vehicle like the Jimny, Mini-LandCruiser perhaps?
I am a Sierra enthusiast. Can't afford a new Jimny but will still be test driving one.
I am hoping that with all the hype that is being generated a lot of people will buy them without taking into consideration just how small they are. With a bit of luck I will be able to afford a low mileage unit in a couple of years.
Amen Brother/Sister
because we are OZB here, the first time you might have a bargain for this new Jimny is in early 2020 for a 2019 plated, but the real bargain should exist in 2021 for the 2020 plated
I would guess that you can get a drive away price in 2021 for the 2020 plated to be 19k driveaway, subject to Australian economic conditions at that time.
I'm hoping that the hype will be continued and by then they bring out a 4 door, 2L Diesel Auto by then.
I think unlikely, the Jimny is always a small car, a Kei variant, having a 5 door will change the dynamic significantly…
In the past there has been a few different factory 5 door variants in some countries. In the early days of the Internet I briefly toyed with the idea of importing one, but that was before the grey imports laws became complicated and when I still had plenty of "hobby money".
I guess technically they aren't Suzuki, as from memory they were from the Maruti plant, Santana plant or some of the other small licensed sister-companies.
Saw one today out the front of the dealership and there is sooooo much want from me for one of these! :D But, it's too pokey for the family…
I'm constantly nagging my wife in the hope that she will eventually get used to it and want to get one. Who cares if it's not great on the highway. The fact that it's so unpretentious makes it even more cool.
Brilliant little car. Can go anywhere, cleverly made.
Buy a LC70 instead
