  • I can't get passed the security code at the moment it's keeps rejecting on both their facebook page and on their actual website!

    • same here on IE. tried it on mozilla and it worked.

      • couldn't get it to work on their page but on FB it didn't ask for the security code so all good

    • like on FB = crap

Because only girls wear jewellery? Mod: Foul Language

Also, quit with this "Like our company you've never heard of on FB because we don't want to spend any money on marketing our mediocre product" crap.

What side of the bed did you wake up on?

And what does 'liking' something on FB have to do with the merit of the deal? When you come out from under your rock, you will find that nearly all companies are jumping on the FB bandwagon and providing samples, contests, etc. to those that 'like' them. Good on them for utilizing a heavily trafficked resource!

Or I'm a guy that wears jewellery and doesn't appreciate blatantly sexist advertising?

"Liking" something on FB has a lot to do with the merit of the deal - when you "Like" something on Facebook you are essentially recommending that product, company or service to all of your friends in the news feed. You may not value your friends' trust, but I have no intention of selling them out for a company I've never heard of and have had no experience in dealing with.

"Good on them for utilizing a heavily trafficked resource!" - Really? No. I respect the companies who actually pay to advertise honestly on Facebook.

TL;DR I'm not recommending a company to my friends unless I know that company is worth it. Not even for a cheap piece of crap "free gift". If they want to advertise on Facebook, they can pay for it.

        • +1

"Liking" a company on FB attracts people to their site. And because it appears on your wall, it might attract your friends to clicking on that FB page out of interest, attracting even more people.
Social media has taken over in a big way. If a company hasn't got a page on FB, for some people, they lose respectibility (I personally don't agree with that, it's something I read recently).

Usually when I have to like a company on FB to attain a sample, I unlike them right away. I haven't had any trouble receiving samples doing this. Furthermore, I have a fake FB account for one of my aliases because I never use my real name when signing up for freebies & I have a PO Box address so I keep my privacy.

Theres lots of ads that target a specific audience, and this promo is obviously targeted at females. You could still wear whatever jewelery they give you… Ive never seen a guy wear pearl necklaces, big loop earrings and rainbow bangles before… (not saying thats what the freebie here is).

        • +1

It's not "blatantly sexist advertising", it's for a female jewellry store. You don't see females complaining sexist advertising for mens deodorant! If you're not interested in getting a pretty FEMININE necklace then don't waste our time with your pathetic tantrum. Have a nice day :)

I partially agree with Jean-Baptiste as I wouldn't want to LIKE anything that I don't actually like. But the simple answer is create another Facebook account. I've created one specifically for getting freebies, posting stuff on companies walls, etc. It's similar to having a different email or handle for different websites/people.

It's also a bit assuming to think this company is just marketing to FB. Working for a large corporation myself, FB is just another marketing channel that we use including mail-outs, conferences, faxes, etc. Love it or hate it, FB gives businesses a measurable metric that stakeholders can easily understand.

There is no need to attack the OP or the store because they specialize in girls jewelery. There are businesses that exist that cater to each sex (e.g. Fernwood for women, Men's Suit places for men)

    • I thought having multiple facebook accounts was against the ToS?

      • Not sure about that. I've heard of celebrities or public figures publically talking about having separate public/private accounts without losing their accounts. Most notably, FB has a limit of 5000 friends per account.

But yeah, I wouldn't sign up for freebies using my work email account but I would use my throw away email account. OzBargainers need to use the right tools necessary to get the bargain…like MacGyver.

        • Celebrates and public figures should not have multiple accounts, they should have their own account with a page for their fans.

  • :( I checked my PO Box today and nothing. Perhaps it'll arrive tomorrow. Glad to know everyone's getting theirs.

  • nothing here yet.

  • Nothing here.

  • FINALLY got it after hearing about everyone else getting it.

  • Mine arrived this week sometime, I just checked my PO Box and found it today.

  • Ive finally received the letter with the jewelery and voucher after waiting 2 months.
Weird thing was that on the front, theres a stamp which says:

7 Jun 2011 Underpaid. To be paid by Addressee

No postage stamps on the envelope, but has the StyleClosets address.

I hope that doesnt mean they (Aust Post) are gonna send me a bill in the next few days…
Anyone got something similar or know what this actually means? I dont wana make stupid assumptions and scare myself.
