Thanks, I was busy refreshing this site and clicking the link. Sorry for &Company. :P

    • +6

They have everybody's personal details, so I'm sure we will find out soon…. :)

      • +6

Michael Mouse & Don Duck don't mind.

  • +7

Before this is officially declared OB'd, and we all get blown away for being off topic since about comment #2, can we get this archived somewhere under:

    Most. Fun. Topic. Ever.

    ?

    • +2

Stuck into epic threads, I'll see what I can do about getting the actual page stuck somewhere too, but it's probably more of a mod's thing :)

  • +4

I'm a little skeptical (I can steal enough pens from work) to fall for this deal. No privacy policy makes it a pretty hard target to get real details on people.

  • +6

    Looks like a scam

  • +3

    Didn't anyone get a neg?
    (braces for impact)

  • +3

    yey!

  • +5

I clicked "Submit" without putting any details in and still got a thank you message, please wait up to 3 weeks etc.

    • +2

      lol

      • +4

There you go: everyone in Australia is getting one…

  • +15

I will order 15 pens so i can finally join the pen15 club.

  • +7

To those above with off topic comments. Cut the crap - any further and you'll get some days in the cooler. Enjoy the banter but do it in the appropriate areas.

Also be very careful on this, the details they give is based on a Papermate pen that sells for $7 on googling the details. Some unknown company by an unknown new member whose desire is to help you be creative by giving you a $7 pen. (plus free postage) in exchange for what??

Good luck like they say nothing is free and you may get nothing but good old fashioned spam

    • +1

:( any chance we could "recreate" the entire first and second page in the off topic section of the forums?

      • +3

Unfortunately it cant be done, the whole post has to go there. Guess Scotty never expected the need….

        • +1

If somebody with subscription turned on could forward their sub emails including every comment before ozpete's (that you have, so one of the first posters) I have spare time on my hands :)

        • +1

          anybody?

    • +1

you may get nothing but good old fashioned spam

couldn't agreed more… i think alot of spam and postal address!

  • +3

    ROFFLOL
All this over a free pen. EPIC !!!!!!!
I feel the need; the need to go design something.
Think this needs a forum post for pics to see what the creative & imaginative things we actually came up with
(yeah that would keep the mods busy :).
Wait, maybe &company could run a competition for ozbargainers & could have a great prize like a …..
    free pen

  • +3

Could OzBargain be a tool in a new form of Viral marketing strategy????? The truth is out there, Scully.

    • +6

Probably - The OP says they found it on another site, but when I checked the other site, its by an anonymous user AND it was posted just today. A little suss. Never posts here and finds this deal from an anon user, then just happens to fly over here and post.

But as they say the best way to get an OZBer is to use the words FREE

  • +5

oh my….this pen is more popular than a supporter scarf :o asdfhjqwuncweuotdjgntudcv

    • +4

& more popular than a $16 voucher for a 4pk Canadian Club & Dry lol

  • +5

why the hell is everyone so worked up about this free pen, can u draw out money or what

  • +3

    A free pen gets 185 votes….

What's next ? NAB start giving away free balloons outside their branches, and it pops up on ozbargain?

  • +4

I am quite sure this is fake now. I'm just not sure what I would do with a small database of emails or addresses if i was in that position and looking to do some dodgy stuff.

  • +3

I feel like cloud nine! :)

  • +3

I noticed a pop up for some online bingo site after submitting and was watching various free poker etc URLs cycling thru before the online bingo signup loaded.
    First link was this:
    h t t p://tutvp.com/click/?s=39260&c=377507&subid=961&

    then came,
    h t t p://ourfreestuff.net/z/54378/CD9103/&dp=0&l=0&subid1=68130

    which redirected to this,
    h t t p://freebingoclub.com.au/signup.php?AID=9103&NID=AJ5423

I suspect its nothing but spam otw.

    • +3

yeah be careful 3 links in 1 pop-up

      • +1

he's in way to deep to be able to get out now. this is unheard of.

    • +3

Also found this jpg of an invitation via their blog directories, might end up legit but those popups look suss.
(Link removed to protect the dummys)
There are heaps of pics from the event as well.

and Anna Lise gets a mention in this newsletter as a contributor.
(Link removed to protect the dummys)

  • +3

When i clicked submit it pop-up this >>>> (Link removed to protect the dummys)
…and that site got poor rating from WOT!

  • +3

    Seems Legit

(Link removed to protect the dummys)

Curated by &Company the exhibtion brings together more than 20 designers, manufacturers, makers and retailers to explore what “local, sustainable and intelligent design really means”.

    from a small website though

    • +5

don't think small company can affort this….

      6051 clicks

      …and still counting!!!

      • +3

        $60,000 ouch!

        • -5

You losers have anything better to do than monitoring the clicks

  • +3

    6,000 clicks, 203 ticks, 4 hours 22 mins :)

Imagine their faces when they realise later this morning :)

(as someone else said, no pop-ups in Chrome)

    • +5

Imagine their faces when they realise later this morning :)

      http://goo.gl/bAMJj

    • +4

and that's without all the other sites this is appearing on. ;-)

    • Actually it was Chrome I used that had the pop up.
Better Pop Up Blocker running now :)

  • +7

    issh. mark, mxyzptik

take a break for a day. This multiple voting has earnt you all ban

    3 stooges….

    • No love for the other 2?
(I'm not trying to sound like a smart backside, but your warning did give the same reason for all 3 of us.)

    • Whao, I guess we really need to have a system that allows off topic but doesn't affect the normal main topic commenting.

      Any suggestions people?

      • Interesting idea, sort of like a 2 tiered comment system. maybe start a thread for it over on the forums and we can do some brain storming, but it might be difficult to integrate into the current system.

    • ozpete, go back to whirlpool. ontopic discussion is not epically important on a bargain website. most people would prefer to read the offtopic discussion and actually embedding "post was offtopic" messages makes IT EVEN MORE OFFTOPIC AND MESSES UP THE WHOLE THREAD EVEN MORE

      • The majority of views on OzBargain come from unregistered users, who do not see all of the unpublished comments. That said unticking "show hidden comments" should probably remove unpublished ones too.. might mention that in the suggestions section.

  • i think we should start spamming random addresses and names for them

if they ahve alot they cant spam us all!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +1

if it's automated sending, which I would suspect it is, then the quantity wouldn't matter unless you set up your own network of computers to set up new email addresses automatically. Or if they don't block certain domains, I suppose a whole bunch of mailinator addresses or example addresses might work.

      • +1

if it's automated sending, which I would suspect it is

A small company would not have the equipment to have automated sending

        • +1

If it's spam, it might be controlled higher up in the chain. But if it is just them, then you're probably right about that.

  • +1

Their website is a barebones wordpress template that looks like it was set up in 2 minutes. They didn't even code their email links on the contact page correctly. Has to be a scam…

  • +11

So when I click a popup comes up with a unique advertisers ID in the URL "?&subid1=68130&subid2=961&" from what I can see this portion of the URL tells the site owner where his / her adrevenue is coming form and they can pay the person accordingly to the number of click they receive from this URL. This is a scam. This way they are getting a few cents per a click, and because you (i.e. Ozbargins crew) are all doing it from different IP addresses, it won't be automatically flagged as illegitimate.

The quickest way to deal with these people is to contact their advertiser and tell them they're using deceptive techniques to gain hits, and that normally is a breach of the ToS of being a ad hoster. They're account will get suspended and they won't get a cent from this scam.

Just fired away an email to "Bidrivals" the website which the submit button links to. Encourage you to do the same. If enough people complain they account should get frozen and they won't be give any money from this scam.

  • Not sure if anyone has mentioned, this deal has been posted on several internet bargain sites, and now im getting a little suspicious.

  • +1

Is it possible the website has been hacked/defaced? If this is the case the website maybe harvesting email addresses. Anyone called the mobile number on the site?

    • I think it is suspicious that all of the other pages i can see on their website are .php but this free pen page is .html

  • +2

www.fatwallet.com has removed the deal from their website

and topbargains has unpublished the deal
    http://www.topbargains.com.au/freebies/andcompany-com-au-fre…

  • time to spam them with fake entries
so their harvesting is a waste of time!

    • if u spam, dont they get MORE money coz ur clicking on the link…..?

  • Hmm is this &company meant to be a devision of the american "and company" (http://www.andcompany.com/) ?
The web address' are very similar, except this Oz one is com.au

    • Not sure. The American site seems to be an advertising/marketing company, whereas the Australian version appears to be a design studio?

I really don't know what to believe now; hopefully they can't do too much bad stuff with a name and address. Email isn't really relevant, we all should have used sacraficial accounts yes?

      • hopefully they can't do too much bad stuff with a name and address.

I do not see why scammers want names and addresses as they can get them from the phone book

we all should have used sacraficial accounts yes?

The worst they can do is send you spam but your email provider should catch most or all of it.

  • hahaha…well played davemu…

  • +1

They didn't get ozbargained, we got ozscammed…

On the bright side, I have annas phone number :D

    • +2

Is it even her real number?
      Anyone tried?

    • +2

ha ha all your details are belong to us.

  • +1
    • +1

….or called them on the phone number on the website.

I was going to call and check the validity of the pen etc, but its too late now.

Some people have commented here that they have Anna's number, but, if no one is going to call Anna, i will.

On another note, there is no activity on the facebook page, or on the blog for some time, and yet the andcompany webpage appears to have been modified on the 18th of April and this also includes the pen offer page. Around this date is when the bargain sites started promoting the free pen.

      • +1

So Crownie, did you score mate?

if no one is going to call Anna, i will.

  • +4
  • +1

    too good to be true!

  • :o, I put my address in but fake email/name.

Can they do anything with my details?!?!?

    • not the owners of &company, but the scammers, yes

      • What can they do though, couldn't they just look up names/addresses from phonebooks?

        • yep

From a phone number you can find the owner's name and address

who knows what they could do with it though

        • How come you're not worried?

        • +1

i don't mind, nothing really to worry about

you can get anything off the internet these days

i mean, if they have my bank details, credit card number, photo of myself i will be worried, but things like these are small

          oh and also

Never Give Real Details For Freebies

in other words, use fake detail for your name birthday, etc EXCEPT for you address

  • Posted on their site

**PLEASE NOTE: if you are here from OzBargains, we have nothing to do with them or their advertised deals. It appears we have been hacked and are rectifying the situation. Apologies for the inconvenience, but while you’re here, feel free to look around – you’ll see we don’t really have much to do with pens and stationary, we support local, emerging designers, curate some pretty amazing exhibitions and produce a locally handmade homewares range. Hope you enjoy!***

    • Is it just me or does it make it sound like OzBargain hacked their website?

      • just you :)

    • If they are really rectifying the issue, why is the pen form still active? I can understand it would have taken a few days to rectify as it was around easter that the note was posted on the andcompany website.

  • Wait..wait.

Did these people steal our details for identity theft or just to get clicks for bidrivals?

  • Despite the note on the website, the free pen form is still there harvesting peoples details.

The mention on the website of Australian only, does this mean the details will be used for Australian Bank Phishing scams?

    • The mention on the website of Australian only, does this mean the details will be used for Australian Bank Phishing scams?

It just means that they want to target people from Australia.

      • It just means that they want to target people from Australia.

sounds like the email that was floating around the web a few months ago

It was a job interview Requirements were

        1) must be Australian
        2) 18+

        and that's it

  • +1

Strange, the multi pen form has changed from what POWEREvolution posted on the top of this page, a popup now appears with Survey club, which when googled has a lot of sites with people posting and asking if survey club is a scam, it sure looks dodgy.

Also, the freemultipen page has been re updated recently:
    Last-Modified: Fri, 22 Apr 2011 09:57:00 GMT

Its possible to submit the form without entering any data, the Thankyou and popup will still appear and the thankyou says the pen will be delivered in 2-3 weeks.

  • the free multi pen form is still working after all this time?

  • CollectionPoint, did anyone receive postal mail scam spam from CollectionPoint? Just wondering if the details were obtained from the andcompany multi pen form.

    • Didn't get anything from them.

  • Signed up for this last weekend- anyone who has received one please reply to this comment with how long it takes…. I have also emailed &company ([email protected]) asking how long it takes (main reason for asking is because I am moving house soon….)

    thanks for any help

    • +3

cant believe the link still works, it was supposed to be removed as its a scam and is harvesting peoples details, there is no free pen, but you should know this.

    • +2

      nhhk

      Really?

We left this thread up thinking people would read it and see the scam, guess we forgot some people dont read details… sigh

    • Funny guy.
