No Cashback from ShopBack for Fridge Purchased from DJs?

Hi,

Just bought an electrolux fridge last month from DJs via Shopback link and paid using DJs egift cards. Just want to confirm whether this would be eligible for cashback? I know the shopback site states cashback is not qualified for gift card purchases unless otherwise stated but cashrewards does provide cashback for gift card purchases from DJs.

Therefore going forward it appears it's more worthwhile to shop at DJs with gift cards via cashrewards rather than using shopback?

Just wondering if anybody had similar experience and/or can confirm the above?

Cheers

What did shopback say when you asked them?

    • their reply was …"As for your inquiry, upon reviewing your attachment [being my DJs invoice], it looks like the cashback is invalidated because you have used gift cards to pay for this order.

I do apologize but I'm afraid this order is not entitled to any cashback due to the reason said above.

Let me know if you need further assistance and I'll be happy to help out."

As per my post below, show them the text on their own web page. They cannot have it both ways.

And next time, use CashRewards instead. TA is very active in this community and they work hard to make users happy.

yup have just replied to the shopback guy with a screen grab of the quote below - will let you know how it goes.

          Thanks!

          • @scoobydoobydu: Keep up posted
If Shopback denies, we just need to boycott Shopback all together.

          • @scoobydoobydu: For the laughs, I think you should write back to them and ask them whether David Jones has rejected your cashback.

Something inside me by looking at the conditions of essentially equivalent offers makes me wonder if Shopback rejected your cashback and pocketed the cash from David Jones subsequently. Or on a lower probability that David Jones outright has rejected the cashback.

This simple honesty test will help you determine just who is passing the buck. Don't ask them in too much detail. Just ask whether David Jones has rejected the cashback.

My money's on them blaming David Jones.

        • Shopback just responded - see below

CashRewards 4 life for me, but the Shopback fine print on the David Jones page says:

    "Payment Options for David Jones
You can use the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay, JCB, American Express and Diners Club. You can use the family of cards and David Jones gift cards too. You can make an online payment for David Jones online shopping through PayPal, AfterPay and you can Shop with Points."

Shopback has never paid me any cashback so I stick to Cashrewards.

  • +1

I always thought that meant there is no Cashback for purchasing gift cards, not that there was no Cashback if paying with gift cards

    • yeah that's what i had always believed as well.

    • It would have to be one or the other, otherwise people would double dip.

Yeah I'm not having much luck with Shopback either, I am still waiting for them to reply to a missing cashback enquiry from Click Frenzy. CashRewards rarely if ever have a problem.

Shopback has been terrible for me. Cashrewards is the way to go.

    • Cashrewards for PM. lol

  • Hit and miss for me and my friends.

Too bad we can't pinpoint who is getting the cashback.

The industry needs a huge transparency overhaul. As the named person on the invoice, you should be allowed to find out where your cashback went, if any. This would stop some agents skimming off the top and scamming their clients and allow one to gain the basic information about their cashback, without leading to any breach in privacy or disclosure agreements. It's not like it's a complicated process.

If someone can implement blockchain style verification, that would be even better. The ability to determine blindly where cashback went is essential to the survival of the industry. If not, it will turn into those offerwall style junk which no one even does anymore (well let's be honest, a majority of the confirmations are the bots are doing that stuff these days). Over time ad money and marketing budgets will reduce as executives find out what is really going on and the impact of non-cashback event on their brand, and these cashback sites will die a quick death; just look at what happened to that passive income stuff (ad fraud). Advertisers quickly woke up to the fact no one is actually looking at their ads, it's all bots!

There is fraud in this industry; you need to be aware of it. Sometimes the affiliate partner will scam you, sometimes the operator of these sites will scam you. They think they can get away with it most of the time because the person who bought their Amaysim card will continue to use it. Otherwise as a consumer they have more to lose. It's game theory. There have been major whistleblowers over the years, once you do that, don't expect to work there again. lol. At least they have a clean conscious.

Person who ordered on ebay isn't going to cancel their order because they didn't get their cashback. lol. It happens, people are exploiting it. Some firms even target a special % of failure rate. Some ban their clients just to stay profitable because they screwed up and the actual cashback they are getting from the marketing department doesn't match the offer they put out.

This is stuff I've learnt over the years. Nothing much has changed. Nothing much will change as long as people continue using these services.

Overall, I have to emphasise this:

Non-cashback will hurt your brand and as an executive or head of marketing, you should be aware of this. It's all subliminal, people who don't get cashback will attribute poor outcomes to your brand. Don't think all the blame is just going to the agents, because they all keep passing the buck because they know they won't let you trace it. If you are smart, you will kill off marketing campaigns which are hurting your brand. Some will even pass the buck to your own marketing department and claim you rejected their cashback. lol. How do you prove that? You can't, so people just believe it and attribute the poor outcome to your brand, they don't even bother to make enquiries, usually because they can't; they are ill equipped to figure out what exactly happened.

In the end this will make or break the industry in the long term, but I suspect it will collapse like the passive income and offerwall stuff.

Ok - i just received a reply from Shopback. Here is the response in full (note i have edited out names, transaction ID and amount).

    "Hello [ ],

Thank you for writing in again. I do have an update in regards to your issue and plan to shoot you an email by the end of the day.

I truly apologize for overlooking the payment terms on my part. While most merchants didn't accept gift card as a payment method, David Jones IS an exception. I have confirmed this with our internal team as well.

That being said, I am glad to inform you that you should be entitled to cashback for this purchase.

    Order ID: [ ]
    Amount: $[ ] (GST excluded)

Since the cashback is not properly tracked, I have submitted a missing cashback request on your behalf in order for our team to investigate further on this.

Merchant's investigation process into your case could take up to 35 days, as Merchant might have to investigate many things (e.g., cookie traces, Google Analytics data) to verify the marketing channel you came from.

You will be informed of the investigation results in no later than 35 days.

Note: While the merchant does accept gift card payment, kindly note that your missing cashback request is still subjected to approval as per the merchant's terms and conditions (ie: using purchase might be invalidated if romo[sic] codes or voucher codes not approved by ShopBack is used).

Thank you for letting me know about this and appreciate your kind understanding while we're liaising with David Jones on this, [ ].

Let me know if you need further assistance and I'll be happy to help out.

    Cheers,
    [ ]
    ShopBack Customer Care Officer"

Within 40 minutes of receiving the above email, I then got the following email from Shopback support:

    "Hi

As shoppers ourselves, we understand how anxious you must feel about your missing Cashback. We are too! We're currently working hard with our merchants for your case as only when our merchants are able to give us the commission for your order, we are then able to share it with you as Cashback.

We've started investigation on your missing Cashback claim for your transaction with David Jones and will take no longer than 75 days from today to get back to you.

Meanwhile, we kindly ask that you refrain from making duplicate enquiries for the same order.

We seek your patience in this matter and hope that you will continue to have an enjoyable experience with ShopBack!"

I am happy Shopback clarified the position with respect to David Jones gift card purchases and that they are looking into the matter. However there is still an inconsistency between the 35 days per the customer care officer vs the 75 days from Shopback support. Once I receive the final decision I will be sure to give you all an update so that anybody else who may be in a similar position of having paid for a DJs purchase with gift cards via the Shopback link but had their cashback declined has a path to seek redress.

Yes you can use gift cards as a payment method for DJs and still get cashback :)

I am also waiting for "investigation"

I think best to boycott unless it comes through as per their website, as well as the rep.

    • any luck? i am in the same boat. i wonder how many others are as well. this has only happened to me when there is a sizable cashback. never if its less than 10 bucks.

      • Still waiting. 35 days would make it a bit past mid Feb. I will chase them up if no response by then.

  • Just an update on this - followed up with Shopback and they have manually credited the cashback into my Shopback account. Pretty happy with the outcome - see email below:

    Hello [ ],

Thank you for reaching out to ShopBack!

Upon checking on my end, I am seeing your missing cashback request was rejected by the system. However, not to worry, I have manually credited the said amount to your account accordingly. Since this is a high purchase value order, our internal team will be checking further with David Jones on this purchase in the back-end.

That being said, I have credited a total cashback amount of $196.27 cashback for this David Jones' order. You may refer to Cashback Activity once you've logged in to your account to view the adjustment made.

Truly appreciate kind patience and understanding in regards to this issue, [ ].

Should you require further assistance, don't hesitate to get in touch! :)
