I was wondering if there is a microphone available which will allow me to conduct interviews on the go, for example interviewing a player down at a sporting field through a Smartphone or Camera?

The "RØDE Rec" app is pretty crap in my experience.
It crashes, a lot.

It's for an Android device, Samsung Galaxy S8+ so preferably a multi-platform device..
budget isn't anything too much, perhaps up to $100?

I'd 100% recommend the Rode smartLav+. I use it with my S8 through the built-in Voice Recorder app and the results are great.
One thing to keep in mind is that it uses a TRRS jack, so it won't work out of the box with a normal camera: you need a converter, and even then in my experience it doesn't work all the time.
So for example, if I purchase the Rode smartLav+ I can plug it into my S8 and conduct interviews through the Camera app? Or for example, through Instagram or Facebook live?
Sorry for all these questions I'm just not too across this process.
Not a problem. Yep, your phone will recognise it as an external mic and use that instead of your internal phone mic. Sound quality is really good too.
