Flea Market 200-in-1 TV Retro Game Box $5 @ JB Hi-Fi

672

Saw this at JB Hifi today for $5, the original sticker price was $19.95

Put in 3 AAA batteries and plug into AV of the TV.

Pretty much the same as this one;

I do not like the games too much myself, but for $5 most of us cannot complain. Good for a testing AV signals for TVs??

      Updated the description to accommodate.

Theres a homeless bloke in Sydney with a DS, plays day and night. No way he is going to use one if these

        • +2

          Being homeless sounds awesome

          • +1

@cannedhams: Best part are the summertime orgys. Worst part is the STDs and someone stole my Nintendo DS

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: I was hoping somone who has seen him knows what DS he has. Hes outside the ANZ bank on Pitt St usually (in the mall). They must have taken his house and he is now squatting there. He is gettinf some serious milage out of that DS tho

              • @Jackson: Instead of money or food someone should give him a new ds game

                /s

  • +4

    Battery (not included)

    Deal breaker…

    • Not sure if you're joking but the batteries are $2.50 from Coles.

      • +1

But this only needs one battery.

What do I do what all the other batteries I'm forced to buy?

      • never take anything jv says seriously

    • +20

Everyone on OzBargain should have a lifetime supply of Eneloops by now.

    • +23

      Battery (not included)

      Deal breaker…

Technically that makes it a circuit breaker.

    • +2

      Cool sunnies!

    • Easy to retrofit a DC port for use with an AC adapter if you have the requisite skills and/or desire to learn. If you already had soldering equipment and a adequate power supply the total job cost would be ~$5.

In fact, you may not even need soldering equipment. Basic example is the following:
How to add a dc jack to a 9v battery powered device (negative ground)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHFq44bPsIA

Disclaimer, I'm not responsible for anything that happens if you follow this advice as I don't have this equipment, can't test it, etc… It's just an idea that I've seen/used before.

  • +2

Add 3x Eneloops and you will increase the value of this item.

  • good deal for me, i'll sell them at the flea market

  • +11

    Bought 3, Christmas shopping done!

    • +1

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA [2]

      • Upvoted for persistence.

        • Thanks mate, appreciate it

  • +13

That video goes for longer than you’ll ever play with this thing.

  • +6

Looks exactly like the orb 200 in 1 and the retro play 200 in 1 with every game reviewed Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3. Rerez review. Just under a different name.

  • +2

I rather play a few good quality games on my phone than 200 of mainly crappy games with this.

    • you're missing out

      • +1

Yes… I am missing out on crappy games… so sad…

        • +1

I thought they were AAA 2018/19 releases

        • You're missing out on crappy games by frequenting the Appstore?

    • +1

Phone games that are fun? Ha!

    • +1

Android gaming is so much better than this thing.

      Oh wait …

  • This product doesn’t support hdmi cable and I don’t know what av cables are

    • +8

av is a new technology, all the latest consoles use it like the soulja boys

    • +3

AV stands for Advanced Visual. It's capable of delivering 8K video output.
At $5 this is a bargain.

      • My PC monitor can use AV cables or HDMI cables.

I think they are actually anti virus cables which is why TVs don't use them as they don't get viruses.

I haven't got a virus since I switched to av cables so I think they are worth paying more for.

      • I upgraded from av to rf so I can watch VHS cassettes in 8K. So many scanlines, it's awesome.

    • +1

Just use the cable that you use with your VCR. If you don't have one I have a few spares that I grabbed when Dick Smith had them cheap.

  • +3

You'd do much better to buy one of these, they also come with a flashlight.

89 NES games, actual games, not just flash game / web game / cheap shit they shovel onto these things to sell legally at JB. I mean, the AV quality is still shit but so is this thing at JB so fair play.

They were like 3 bucks when I bought mine a year ago, no idea why but they seem to be sitting around 8 now, still, that 3 bucks more is well worth it when compared to one of these (profanity) ugly things.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Mini-Video-Gaming-Console-8-…

    Also only needs 1 AAA.

    • is this same as the one you mentioned? @5.45 shipped

      https://www.gearbest.com/classic-toys/pp_1219667.html?wid=14…

      • +1

Yeah man, that's the one. They make black (Shadow), blue (Sonic), red (Knuckles) and possibly a yellow one for Tails too. The humour, from the irony of it being shaped like a Sega character, despite only carrying Nintendo games, is more worth it than the thing itself.

I used it like twice, I have a million better ways to play these games, I just thought it was fun and the 2 year old might have got a kick out of it. The lazer light is probably the coolest part, pretty decent beam tbh.

    • +1

Wow its got final fight. My favourite beatem up game!

    • -1

If you're going to pirate software why not just download a free open source emulator (which is probably running in this box) and the games yourself instead of paying someone so they profit from piracy …

      • +1

Because if the intention is to amuse a 2 year old for 5 minutes, it's much better than buying and setting up a phone for emulation, or buying and setting up a computer for emulation, or a console, PSP, DS, whatever. It's cheap and easy.

And the majority of games on it either aren't available for purchase anywhere, so they ain't losing out on a sale anyway.

    • Yeah I've got one of those. Really bad. In fact, I think it would have taken effort to make it as bad as it is. The video quality is terrible, but the main issue is that the controller is just awful when actually trying to play the games. I tried… I really tried to like this.. but please, just get a Raspberry Pi and play everything properly.

You know the device is bad when they advertise the "flashlight" as a feature…

  • +3

The games it included are just cheap flash games.
Being honest, these games are far worse than the games from app store.

  • -2

A Blast from the Past from the 70's in a mini box using av cables and batteries. Someone should send one to the Powerhouse technology Museum. You can get heaps of High quality games with awesome CG these days on the google Play store for free on your PC, smartphone, tablet or android box. My daughter is 7 and she definitely would not play prehistoric games. You have to love that 70's LED look, right!…lol

Better off spending that $5 on a coffee and a donut.

    • +3

You're 100% correct. In 1980, the Atari had better games. This thing is just a waste of time.

    • PC, smartphone, tablet or android box

All of these devices cost more than $5, even the raspberry pi zero cost more than this!

      • I think the assumption is that people probably already have at least one of those devices.

    • Not if you in WA. Coffee and donut average about $7.50.

And there are no OzBargains available. I know, I have checked!

    • you let your 7 year old play new games. Real parenthood starts them off at Atari, then the original Nintendo, SNES and so on

  • +8

    More eWaste garbage.

  • Hack it and put a Raspberry Pi in it

    • +1

Hack it with Sulphuric acid. It will work better then.

      • +2

        What does that do?

        • Seriously Space Cadet ?

        • let us know how your modded system goes spaceflight

  • where can I find a console with game "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs" in it?

  • +1

    These are crap.

Bought two yesterday on a whim waiting in line and the cable that connects to the controller itself was so loose on both of them that you literally had to hold your finger against the connector to put pressure against it so it actually makes contact to show any signal on the TV.

A sample size of two so take it how you will but I would save my money.

  • I saw the thumbnail and was hoping it was a Nokia E7 :(

    • +3

      I was hoping it was a Nokia n-gage :(

      • Your username checks out because I remember playing a Sonic game on that thing!

        • +1

I still own a Nokia n-gage QD as well. Sonic was great on it.

  • +2

I bought this one for full price last month and my 8 year old likes it. This price is a very good deal for young kids.

    • Thanks bud, makes me feel less guilty. Hope graphics turn out ok and my 8y son likes it, cheers

  • +1

    Shovelware delights

  • Give this to Jerma. He'll play them all since he's done 100000 games.
Hoping there's folks who gets that reference

  • Make a nice retro Door Stop

    • I prefer rocks.

They are older, more retro and environmentally friendly.
