[Resolved] Accidentally Broke a Window in The House. I Have Building and Contents Insurance

Hi, I accidentally broke a window in the house.

Does anyone know if that is covered when you have a house insurance (building and contents?

UPDATE: I am with RAC in WA.

I called them and lodged a claim.

They organised for an after hours glass repairer.

Window was fixed 3 hours after I lodged the claim.

Very impressive.

What does your insurance policy say? What did the insurance claim line say?

    • +18

They said ask on OzBargain first then call back

    • They said to ask the bikies.

    Yes, I know.

  • What is the excess?

Is it an aluminium lift out panel you could take to your local glazier? May work out cheaper than your excess unless your policy has free glass replacement.

  • Only if your policy includes accidental damage.

    1. Contact ozb
    2. Ring glazer get a quote
    3. If replacement > insurance excess, contact insurance company check if it's covers.

      Step 1 is mission critical.

  • You need to check your policy, some Defined Events insurers cover accidental damage of fixed glass. Depends on insurer.

Wow how dumb are we getting in Australia, these threads are getting worse…

Read your insurance contract/policy, none of us here have access to it!!!

I just left whirlpool shaking my head after reading a couple of posts over there… and landed in this thread.. :-(

I'm pretty sure alot of them have moved over from Whirlpool.

We need pre-approvals from admins for these kind of post.

I know the answer but I think you should work it out for yourself.

    • I'm going to get popcorn and wait for next time you really need some help…

How big is the window? It might be cheaper to just buy a new glass?

  • Just broke a cup in my house too, will I get in trouble?

    • No insurance coverage but you will be spanked !!!

    • If it was your wife's favourite. Then yes.

  • How did ya break it?

    • +3

      His ego bumped into it

  • Did you take the Policy out before or after breaking the glass? lol

  • If you have Accidental coverage then yes its covered, but you pay the excess.

Its a window, just pay for it to be fixed yourself.

  • You will pay excess and your premium will more than likely go up if you claim. If you can fix it yourself, do it. I’ve broken 3 windows at my house and fixed all of them myself.
