G'day!
Time is end January-2019 to February-2019. Yes, Chinese New Year season.
Been looking for flights to BKI via BNE, or OOL. But also keeping my eyes open for other cities: PER, SYD, MEL…..
Firstly there's no direct flight, secondly the transit is painful.
Airlines include MAS, AirAsia, SIA, Qantas….
Getting exasperated with the number of choices, date, time and airline…. But they are all very expensive.
Can someone share any deal, promotion or cheaper way to fly to BKI?
Thanking you!
Flight to Kota Kinabalu

Wrong.. there's a direct flight from perth to kota on Malaysia airlines
It's meant to be an adventure :p. Put your 80s new romantic khaki outfit on, watch Hungry like to wolf and get into the spirit. (No direct flights is a good thing.)
Virtually all your choices will be through KUL - transit is a breeze here.
I flew to KUL and then to Kota Kinabalu via Air Asia X on a very tight budget and it worked out quite well. For very little I did a bid (and won) for a premium economy flatbed upgrade.
Good on you for winning the flatbed.
I won an extra seat when they first introduced the Big
But someone came to me and asked if she could sit next to me because she was sick…..I guess the key is the dates…
an option is to fly brunei airlines and get a boat, not sure if they fly from brisbane or not though.
air asia is cheapest, if thats to expensive for you, id take a trip to the sunshine coast instead
Brunei used to fly from BNE, that's many years ago, probably before Air Asia.
And they prayed before they fly :-)
From there, a mere 45 minutes flight to BKI.For the CNY season, Air Asia is nearly the same as other airlines.
There are no direct flights to BKI from Australia.
I can find flights from OOL to BKI (via KUL/SIN) on Air Asia/Scoot for a little over $500 with a long layover, or less than $600 with a short (2 hr) layover. How cheap do you want it? and what is considered a painful transit?
