Recommend a TV

I'm in the market for a 65" or a 75" for under $2500
I would like a recommendation not for the best TV but for one that has the most value for money.

I am currently tossing between either a Samsung or a Sony but from what I understand is that OLED is kind of out of my budget.

I currently have a 55" 4 years old Samsung in my other room which I am pretty happy about apart from the fact that the built in OS is very slow which is my biggest concern about the new one I purchase. Are the new Samsung OS slow? Also, I heard the software on Sony Android TVs are also slow.

  • What’s wrong with the LG OLED for under 2k??
    55 inch and good quality

    • probably nothings wrong with it, I just want a 65 or 75 inch for my living room :)

Pointless unless you’re 5m or more back
The 55 will also cost less to run and have much less drama
Unless you’re paying top dollar for qled which I hate (Samsung have BAD operating systems on some tvs) or a decent 65 oled id steer clear of anything out there atm

Certainly won’t get it for under 2k, although I guess it depends on what you’re after, LG WebOS as much as people hate it here is actually probably superior to both android and most integrated softwares on TV, I still have a LG UH615T WebOS 3.0 tv in the bedroom and it’s still kicking on, I kept away from the latest software update for it but overall it’s a good set and I’ve had it 3 years, at the time it was a budget 4K with HDR and even though LG used the white pixel trick it’s superior to most low end junk on the market atm

I would spend more and go down the road of OLED, for the lounge room 55 inch would be more than enough but i guess that’s your call, I think 65 or 75 inch tvs look stupid in a small room and can’t be good for your eyes.

        • I understand where you are coming from, however my living room is huge! My current really old 50" LG looks tiny in my living room which is why I want to buy a 65 or 75.

            @fenetic: Fair enough
I’d spend the extra on OLED if you can stretch the budget
            That’s my next move

          • @fenetic: We watch TV in a large room that has us about 18 ft from the screen, and Sony X850D works for us just fine.

Ozbargains favourite TV the Hisense series 7 are excellent value for money.
The 65P7 (65in) is currently at about 2k and the 75P7 (75in) 3k, you just missed the Christmas sales :(.
These prices will return at the end of financial year sales, and when the new 2019 TV's come out in some months time The ones above will be at or better than the Christmas sales.
    I'm after the 65P7 =).

    • Thank you, I'll keep that in mind!

I am in the same boat at the moment. Same budget. Want the similar size. Etc etc. I’m also not ready to make the OLEF jump for the price of 65” OLEDs.

Keep in mind I have no idea what I’m doing or talking about. So big spoon full of salt.

My research has pointed me to/has me leaning towards the Sony KD65X900f which is on sale at JB for $2495 and even saw it at Myer for about $2200. I was also tossing up the Samsung NU8000, but I light the idea of full backlit array with local dimming in the Sony over the edge light Samsung.

I have seen and been told the Samsun is brighter, but my living room is quite dark so the Sony shouldn’t be a problem.

Also, in terms of size I have been using this site to work out what might be best. My couch sits against one wall which is just shy of 3.5m from the wall I want to mount it on. So it says I COULD go a 75, but even I think that’s a bit ridiculous for the room I’m talking about.

Good luck with your search. Hopefully with CES and the 2019 models coming out, some of the more expensive 2018 stuff will come down. Since I’m not an AV pro I don’t need the latest of the very best.

It depends a bit on your usage.

Some of the lower model Samsung TV’s seem to have reasonably ineffectual local dimming, which is important when you’re talking about an edge lit LCD TV. Blooming, and uniformity can be affected by how sophisticated the local dimming software/hardware combination is, so even if you imagine that local dimming wouldn’t be something you’d likely ordinarily use, it’s worth noting that it may improve overall performance.

From memory both Sony, and Samsung mid-high range TV’s are fairly responsive in terms of motion, however I would be looking for a model that offers black frame insertion, which can improve motion a bit more.

Between the Sony, and Samsung LCD’s, I’d personally try and get one of the QLED models, as I think the colour performance is supposedly better.

Your best bet I’d say, is to find some models in your price range, and then read as many reviews as you can about each one, the more detailed the review the better. Look @ Rtings, AVforums, CNET, flatpanelsHD, HDTVtest etc.
