For cubers but I also recommend for any parents who want a Rubik's Cube for a child to buy a cheap speed cube (e.g. QiYi Warrior W is$8.50). Kids can then learn using finger tricks from the start rather than re-learn move methods later.
I bought the Qiyi Valk 3 Power.
No date on how long deal lasts but Valk 3 has long had good reviews.
Whatever you do, don't buy them a Rubik's brand Rubik's cube.
The official Rubik's guide is a really good place to start and I have had someone solving in less than a day using the PDFs and video.
If you can be patient, you can get the Warrior W for a bit over A$4.

Stickerless is a good place to start, depending on your child. I have handed out hundreds of cubes to primary school students over the last four years and there have been many who've come up to me and say their brother's sister's dog swapped the stickers and present me this Frankenstein's monster looking thing. Inevitably they haven't put them back on properly and it can't be solved without peeling them all off again. I don't get paid that much as a teacher to do that.
One of the great joys of cubing is collecting new cubes. It is a great cheap hobby. I feel like solving one right now.
