Xiaomi Xiaofang Camera - MAC 34 - Failing to Connect

I have a couple of Xiaofang cameras with MAC 34 and from what I’ve read, these are now unusable outside of China.

They used to work but it seems updates have rendered them useless. I’ve tried the latest version of the MiHome app on iPhone (selected Mainland China and Singapore) but after scanning the QR code on the phone, it gets to 100% then gives a connection timeout error . I’m using 2.4 GHz WiFi and the cameras don’t have SD cars in them.

Is there a simple solution? I’d like to avoid the hacking path if possible.

EDIT: Got it working. I had to hold down the setup button for 15-20 seconds to revert it back to the original firmware. It then worked fine with the latest MiHome app (version 4.11.1). I had region set to Mainland China.

EDIT2: Camera still works after updating to version 3.3.4.216.

  • did you try this?

i tried this last year and got mine working https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks

have to redo mine again since i've moved house.

this is the simple solution, alot simpler than relocating to china

    • I'll try this tonight. If the hacks apply successfully, do I need to do anything else or should I then be able to add the camera to the MiHome app?

      • i can't recall off hand.

however i do remember just following the steps and everything worked

        • Thanks. Were you using the MiHome app or another viewing/recording platform?

          • @ShortyX: i used another platform that was recommended to me from an old thread on here when these cams were all the rage

            • @myusername: Thanks - I would like to use the MiHome app for the mic feature.

I might try this article as well - it mentions using the mobile hotspot without a password.

              • @ShortyX: pretty sure if you use the app your data is routed through china thus geo blocking your cams.

pretty sure the whole idea of the hack is to be able to bypass this "feature"

                • +1

@myusername: Finally worked - see edit in original post.

                  • @ShortyX: nice work.

will have to find mine and have a crack now.

  • I heard they work with the new updates

  • Try putting in an sd card. My Xiafang failed to connect when I had a dead Micro-sd card. After weeks of trying everything, I replaced the card and it worked. This might be your issue (then again it might not)

Tried that - still same error.

  • Will they connect to a mobile hotspot?

  • Thanks for the post.

My 2 old units are alive again after trying the new trick!
But the Detection Notification isn't working still. Any fix for this?

I'm using iPhone by the way.

  • Oh I'll have to try this today! I was just sbout ready to crack it open so that I could SSH into it and downgrade the firmware.

  • Thanks very much for the tip! Brought my cam back to life!

      How and what worked?

      • Hold the reset button 15 to 20 seconds. Make sure you have a new login and set China as region. I used Gbox so I can have two xiaomi app on my phone. One in gbox and one outside gbox
