  • Any good?

      FFG titles are usually good.

Looks like an introductory set, needs 3 other starter sets to make a legal deck according to the reviews.

    Highly rated game. Hm.

    • yeah, curious as to what the mileage would be just from this set of you were to play casually at home, vs for example a couple of Keyforge decks.

I'm more of a boardgamer but I've been meaning to crack into these sort of card games for a while without falling into the MTG money pit.

      • MtG Arena is online so it may not be what you're looking for but you can F2P and still have fun and do decently.

I have yet to pay a single dollar.

Hate these FFG money pit games where you need to buy multiple copies to build a decent deck.

    • Thanks for the comment. Had the impression this was a board game. Will pass on deck-building stuff!

      • Yeah the games are cool and all its just way too expensive as you need to buy multiple core sets etc =(

  • Note, it has a weighted complexity rating of 4 out of 5, which is quite high.

For those that don't know, this is a "living card game", the starter set has at least one copy of every card that was initially released. However, to make a competitive deck you would want to buy three of these starter sets as you can have up to three copies of a single card in one deck.

There are also expansions, but these come with three copies of each card so you only need to buy them once.

In official FFG tournaments, the winner and highest ranked placements for each clan (like a colour or class) get to sort of influence the story of the Lo5R world, which effects the next set of cards that come out. I'm not aware of any FFG tournaments in Aus though.

I bought a single starter set a while ago.
Tried to play with my girlfriend, she didn't really like it.
Games can easily last more than an hour.

Still love theme and artwork though.

Team Covenant have quite a few learning to play videos on their Youtube channel if anyone's curious about the game. I found them very helpful for understanding the rules/flow of the game.
