Looking for Cheapest Gas and Electricity Provider in Brunswick

Hey guys,
I am moving to Brunswick in 2 weeks. I want to know which are the cheapest gas and electricity provider in Brunswick area?
I checked the website compare.enegrgy.vic.gov.au, they suggest tango for electricity and origin for gas. But I actually heard tango for the first time. does anyone have experience with that company?
Also, another website suggested me simply energy and powershop.
I am all confused now, that which shall I opt for. I do not want any contracts or disconnection fees.

about the house:
2 bhk house, total 2 people living, cooking twice a day, and spending most of the weekends at home.

Any information would be useful, thanks!

  • OP: Why don't you read the rates charged, think about your usage previously and do some simple calcs to see what is cheapest?

Also you seem to be confused between wanting the cheapest and wanting something reputable?

    • I am looking for the cheapest one. Tango has 41$ disconnection fees. And i think its way too much.

      • Disconnection doesn't mean changing providers.

On what basis is this disconnection fee too much?

If it is the cheapest, don't you think the money you'll save over the years of using the provider will more than cover $41?

        • yes, I think you have got a good point there. Thank you mate.

Could you provide an example of a simple calculation for the following example:

      Provider A

      Tier 1: 0.25541c per kWh
Tier 2: 0.33118c per kWh after 302 kWh usage

      Daily Supply charge: 0.83c

      Provider B

      Tier 1: $0.28221 kWh
Tier 2: $0.29891 kWh after 267 kWh usage

      Daily Supply charge: $0.78

      Assuming 956 kwH usage.

        Provider A

        =((302x0.25541)+(654x0.33118)+(30x0.83)) = monthly usage?

You can modify for B to compare.

pretty sure the disconnection fee is only when you disconnect the power(move out) not when you change suppliers

Compare energy, government website that you used, is the best way to determine your situation, which provider is cheapest. Everybody's situation is different and that gives you all providers view, rather than selected providers like iselect/comparethemarket. I am with tango and they were cheapest for me. Disconnect fee does not apply, so do not worry.

    • thank you. buddy!

  • Compare energy vic is a good comparison website for much of that, iselect is also a good one that does the paper work of switching you over as well to save you that extra effort but may not compare every last company. But they compare the majors.

  • Tango (previously Pacific Hydro) have been awesome the 2.5 years I've been with them. Cheapest by far and locked in their pricing for two years when I signed up. They are great. Even when they emailed me to say the rates are changing after the 2 years they were still the cheapest.

  • I'm currently with Globird for electricity and gas, did the maths today and Tango for electricity and Red for gas will come out cheaper.

    • How is GloBird? They are offering $50 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/471844) and their rates are quite good compared with other providers.
I was thinking in switching now and also get the $50 bonus from the gov (so $100 in total)

      • Changed to Tango now after globird jacked their prices up this year. Gas with Red, comes out cheaper overall with my usage patterns.
