Thin Ultrabook under $1000?

Hello
My Samsung Series 9 notebook (NP900X3F-K01AU) met its match with the floor and now I am looking for a replacement.
$1000 is my budget and I am looking at used options as well.
Main requirements are (in no order):
- at least i5 7th gen
- 13.3-14" screen
- must be thin and light - my Samsung was just over 13mm =( So anything like that would be great.
- SSD at least 256GB

So far I looked at Lenovo, but they seem to have heating issues with their thin notebooks like Yoga.

Any suggestions?

I have to be honest you are asking too high spec for the price (even second hand as you specify 7th gen or above)

Ultrabooks with even something as old as 5th gen are asking upwards of $700 second hand.

So the question would be: what are you willing to sacrifice if your budget is $1000?

-If you are only using this as a word processor/browser ultrabook then a core m3 or pentium ultrabook may be for you (which you can get new for around $1000)
-If you aren't moving it around a lot do you consider the thin and light tax to be worth it? Sacrificing Ultrabook form factor can get you a much better value machine

Let me know your thoughts and we can try to figure out a good machine within your budget

    • My Samsung I bought refurbished for $900 back in the days. Would still be happy with it (was i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB memory) if it did not break.
The only thing I may sacrifice is the processor generation. I saw things like Acer recently, Lenovo L380 - all Gen 7-8 and under $1000 new/refurbished. But Acer is crap (warranty), L380 is bulky. Was looking at X1 Carbon of some generation or XPS13, but just started searching. Its hard to downgrade the class =)

hmm I think I might've found something to your liking (and above expectations)

        Refurbished Asus Zenbook

        7th Gen i7, 512GB ssd, 13.3" screen, 13.9mm thick.

I actually surprised myself here finding this one lol. Looks like it has a 1 year warranty but you will need to look into those details

That one is slightly over budget so I also found this

        7th gen i5, 256GB ssd, same screen/body

I think my previous searches got me overpriced second hand sellers so you can ignore what I said earlier. Refurbished might be the way to go again.

  • Consider one of the Acer laptops. You can grab an Acer Swift 3 and it should hit all your requirements (except it might be slightly thicker than 13mm); around $800-1000 depending on the configuration.

    • Acer has a good price, but warranty issues are offputting =( I always liked how they look, but they need to come with a free 3 year warranty with home pickup to be worth the hassle dealing with warranty issues (as everyone complaints)
