Does the head phone need to plug the audio into the base station?

Also can anyone review if the headphone is comfortable to your ears?

    • Yes, these headphones love you long time.

    • Also keen to hear how these work. My hearing impaired father in law would like to use these with his Samsung Smart TV. Do they allow dual audio output so others can still hear soundbar output ?

    • Does the head phone need to plug the audio into the base station

Well, how else do you think that the sound could be transferred? Pixies?

If your TV already had some way to send audio wirelessly, then you wouldn't need to buy a wireless transmitter, would you?

    • The headphone itself is wireless. The base station is plugged into the TV.

As for comfort, the headphones look similar to Aldi’s Bluetooth model. I have these and I personally find them comfortable to year. The padding isn’t bad. But like all headphones, it comes down to who’s wearing it.

      Hope this helps.

Got these for $9.99 in the Chatswood opening specials. Link here

Can confirm they are quite comfortable to wear. Well worth even $40, although RRP at Chatswood was $30.. seems their price has increased.

  • Someone posted a good summary of the difference between the panels and where they’re made in one of these threads regarding the tv’s a while ago. Anyone have a good summary on whether it’s worth going for this panel or going for a more expensive one keeping in mind I will never use the smart features

    • These are just cheap and nasty tvs with average electronics as you usually get what you paid for. These usually suit people on a budget like the elderly or people who just want the largest tv for the cheapest price. Also if you aren't concerned about smart software and just want a tv for FTA well it might be for you !

      • second to this, i think if you just wanted a basic tv than this could save you some bucks but dont expect any wow factor or compare them with Samsung/LG.

        • +2

Contrary to your opinions, I find the quality of Samsung and the likes not to be that much better in contrast to the exorbitant pricing compared to 'cheap' TV brands (which I have both Samsung and Kogan)

          • @Danstar: I mean Kogan often use Samsung and LG panels for their TVs.

            • @GypsyOnCrack: The one I bought had some cheap Chinese branded screen.

Ps. Someone's a bit touchy in regards to me suggesting 'branded' TV's are a bit of an over-hype

              • @Danstar: That doesn't surprise me. As far as I know Kogan will list if it's a Samsung or LG panel but Kogan can be a bit dodgy.

                • @GypsyOnCrack: It was listed as that brand in the specs. I didn’t care for the price. And I prefer it over my Samsung (based on quality and price, price being the swaying point)

    • I`m gonna assume the 2 posters above work for Harvey Norman. Just like they upsell people away from there Hisense Brands

      • Hisense is up there with the big guys in terms of quality Bauhn isnt !

        • Bauhn doesn't usually make any of their own products; they typically pacakge and distribute products by other manufacturers with a different badge. Because of this, the quality of Bauhn products is quite variable.

For instance, I have a Bauhn device that's a re-badged Broadlink device. While that's still a Chinese manufacturer, they're well regarded in the home automation space and probably one of the best devices in their class.

I don't think it's possible to judge the quality of any particular Bauhn device without seeing it. Having said that, the price is usually some indication of quality and I can't imagine these will be "big brand name killers."

        • Are you associated with Harvey Norman solidssnake ? I stood next to a Harvey sales person trying to upsell a guy away from Hisense towards LG or Samsung by telling him they have had 2 Hisense screen come back that day and no Hisense which clearly means the branded ones are better. The guy seemed sold

          • @ahoyhoy: Used to work at JB in TV department for 5 years, when hisense first came out they were terrible but the past couple of years they're amazing for the price they're sold at ! The only ones I said were bad were Soniq as trying to source remotes when the y die is terrible as they are model specific

  • +2

Had the soundbar ended up returning it as my tv doesn't support arc and the audio started dropping out and not playing using the 3.5mm audio connection. The remote is terrible I will eventually get a Yamaha soundbar when a good deal comes up again.

    • I bought one of these soundbars last year, and its not bad. Better than the built in speakers on the TV (55" bauhn as well), but it can't handle a 5.1 stream well.

If my source only puts out 5.1 I had hoped this would be able to transcode it or something? Anyway it ends up missing out on the centre channel so voices are really quiet but sound effects and music super loud. Not sure if I'd have this problem with any 2.x soundbar though.

Also on the odd occasion it drops the connection from the TV and then immediately reconnects. Takes about 5 seconds. This is via ARC. I won't be able to work out if it's the TV or the soundbar dropping the connection until I get another soundbar.

      • You should set the source (DVD/Blu Ray player or whatever) to output in 2.0 channels only, it should then downmix the 5.1 channels and output 2 channels to the soundbar.

Honest question so apologies if I sound like a knob - every week there is an Aldi deal posted with whatever is coming up in their catalogue. I get they're cheap but how is it different from posting other items which just seem like they're a good price? Like could I post a chinese no-name brand of item from eBay because it's cheaper than other brands?

    • +8

Short answer: it's not that different.

Longer answer: Aldi is popular with Ozbargainers because:
      a) they often stock unusual and unique low-priced items,
      b) Aldi stores are common across much of the country, so the bargains are quite accessible to most people;
      c) they have an excellent return policy, so it's easy to trial dubious items to see if they live up to expectations, and get a refund if not.

The Aldi catalogue doesn't always get a lot of attention, because it doesn't always contain items that are of interest to Ozbargainers, or there's a cheaper/better alternative elsewhere.

If you find a great deal on eBay, feel free to share it. The downside of eBay deals (in comparison to Aldi deals) is that they often postage delays, the brands are often less well known, and there's little or no ability to try an item and return it if it doesn't meet expectations.

      • That makes perfect sense, thanks for taking the time to respond.

      • Well said, agree with above

  • How does this Cordless Headphone work?

    It says

Use as wired or wireless headphones

    and

Ideal for use with TV, stereo, etc

but from some comments i have a feeling that this isn't Bluetooth…

    • It's not Bluetooth, which works in 2400 Mhz range. It's an entirely separate wireless protocol.

A similar set of headphones sold by Aldi in the past used an arrangement where the base station is AC powered, and plugged into your music source (PC, phone, home stereo, TV) via a standard headphone cable.

Specs say it works on 915.5, 916.0 and 916.5 MHz transmission, and hops between those 3 frequencies. The lower frequency is probably how they can achieve longer range.

I assume you can also use them wired via 3.5mm headphone jack, although that's not stated. Perhaps they have a special proprietary cable.
