Car Paint Peeling off

The metallic paint on my car is peeling off. Anyone know of a cheap way of fixing rather than paying $$$$ at the panel beater?

Is it metallic? Looks flat white to me.

Did this start as a scratch from a minor accident and then get bigger every time it was power washed at one of those terrible wash bays?

I need to know the answers before I can recommend a solution.

  • Looks like there’s damage you need to fix first, then after that it can be painted.

A cheap and crappy fix is to buy the exact paint colour (matching code) in spray tin at super cheap.

  • I had whole swathes of white paint come off the roof of my corolla 2011.. pretty extreme, could hear sections peel off and then see the paint debris flying off down the highway in the rear view (!). I came to an agreement with local Toyota dealer for respray for a nominal fee (as bought from them but technically out of any warranty). It turns out that the paintwork is contracted out by Toyota (and other marques).. to the lowest bidder, which often means the thinnest layer of paint applied, or otherwise compromised job.

… therefore not an unknown problem…

down low you could probably get away with a bit of auto touchup or killrust enamel, at least as a stopgap measure.

Are you talking about at the factory assembly line or dealership repair work?

    • That’s what the dealership told you, haha ok

    • What? They don’t send your car back to the factory?? They get a panel beater to do it?? Cheap bastards!

Head into super cheap auto and find the matching paint for the cheapest way.

  • Liquid paper should do the job

Looks like the front bar has hit the ground, flexed the plastic and cracked the paint to shit. Then it has started to peed off.

You would need to sand all the cracked paint off, and go from there.

Definitely wasn’t run over a gutter or parking bay stop. Definitely wasn’t picked at or hit with a hose at any stage. Came out one morning and found it like that. :D

  • Why do you care? It's literally down where nobody is going to notice it, and definitely won't care. Unless you're selling there's no reason to fix it. But still, just get a can of touch-up paint in the same colour, there are websites out there for this, give it some sanding and spray it on, done.

  • Once the paint is comprimised like that there's no going back. It's only a plastic part so it won't rust or anything…A panel baeter or body shop would likely recommend replace the bumper as the fix. Best $$ option is to just leave it.

I used the above method to fix my friends car.

I bought from supercheap auto and other stores:
    Paint
    Clear coat
    Primer
    Sand paper
    Paint masking Tape
    Methylated spirits

Since your car is flat white and it's near the bottom, you probably don't need to polish it if you want.

It cost me less than 100 bucks all up from memory.
