Kmart Microwave Parts - Where to Get It in Sydney?

I have been using Kmart convection microwave for last 3 years and it is working absolutely perfect except the door is not closing for last few days. So I opened the door and found out that door latch is broken.

eBay or Gumtree is of no use when looking for Kmart microwave parts. The only similar looking latch available online is for Samsung but it is costing $25 and no guarantee that it will work, so appreciate any suggestions on where I can get parts or just buy new one? We need convection so except Kmart other brands are in excess of $200 so can't afford it right now.

Cheap made in China goods aren't worth repairing. It's better to bin it and purchase a new for $119.

  • under consumer law you have to be able to purchase spare parts for thing you purchase. Kmart are actually pretty good with returns I would take it back and they will probably just replace it.

    • But it’s cheap item (at least half cost of any other brand and 3 years old) and parts don’t necessarily have to be available..

      How much time is ‘reasonable’?

This will depend on the type of goods. For instance:

it would be reasonable to expect that tyres for a new car will be available for many years after its purchase; and
it may not be reasonable to expect that spare parts for an inexpensive children’s toy are available at all.

      • yes that is all correct, but I would at least have a go at returning it. Kmart are pretty good, a while ago a gf worked there and she was amazed at the things people returned and that kmart gave a refund.

          How many do you have?

    • Manufacturers guarantee to take reasonable steps to provide spare parts and repair facilities, a place that can fix the consumer’s goods, for a reasonable time after purchase.

Reading your own link, I don’t think expecting spare parts for a 3-year old $119 oven is reasonable at all.
Neither is expecting a warranty replacement/return.

OP: just buy a new one, not worth the hassle of sourcing parts for a cheapie.
Think spending $800 to fix a $1k car, other things will fail and need replaced soon.

      • it's $119… yeah your probably right…but it is worth having a go especially as OP say he cant afford a new one.

      • I think it is reasonable to have spare parts available for that product at that price.

        • Not still in inventory 3 years later.

    • 3 years later for a $120 microwave? Ha.

  • Thanks everyone. Only thing that stopped me buying new was the fact that my microwave is perfectly fine and working except a plastic latch which probably isn't worth $1 is costing me $119 if I buy new one !

If Kmart was selling parts then I would have bought it for $20 !

H.E Group is the distributor for a lot of the stuff Kmart sells. Try giving them a call on 1300 105 888 describing the part that you need.

  • Be very careful when opening the microwave. I’d advice against it unless you know what you’re doing. The capacitors still hold high amount of charge even though it has been unplugged.

    • Thanks for info but I only need to remove back of door which is plastic panel.

  • Is it just the "keeping it closed" latch that is broken? Araldite a gate latch on to the front.

    • Luckily I have both broken plastic parts so will try Araldite…. thanks

Any other stronger version of Araldite?

      • Try a mix of baking powder and superglue. Check youtube for info.
