think you have to run the game through origin service similar to what steam has.
why would you pay for the game and then download the pirate version making the purchase pointless… 😂

It's still a breach of their copyright/EULA (End User Licence Agreement) to pirate the game (and circumvent their DRM) regardless of whether you've also bought it.
Base game = cheap
Add-ons = expensive
This isn't exactly news - The Sims has had this business model for 20 odd years…
