Panasonic 4k DVD Player - New or Not ?

Hi

So I just received my Panasonic 4k DVD player from a store that is often on here. It arrived in a box that damaged, and had obviously been opened, and even the protective wrapping around the player was obviously not in brand-new condition, it had been unwrapped and then re-wrapped again very poorly. The foam ends had bits chipped off them, and I feel some other packing was missing. The whole thing just rattled around in the box.

Anyway, I emailed them to ask WTF? They blamed Panasonic, and offered a fair resolution, which I accepted.

I am just curious because I've never received anything claiming to be Brand-New in such obviously used/opened condition.

What do others think? Check the picture of the demo/display sign that was attached to it.

They said they don't have demo/display models. So maybe things are shipping in such conditions with such signs stuck to them nowadays :/

  The stuck on sign is possible I have seen them before.

  The opened box is obviously wrong but it appears there is a resolution?

  If they blamed Panasonic maybe the item came straight from them? It might have been some back of the factory ruined box version they sent out? Is this intnl shipping? I wonder if customs got to it and took it apart?

  Yeah the stick on display card thingy is fairly normal. I bought a Philips BR player years ago that had one. And my home theatre speakers came with something similar stuck to each speaker listing some specs etc.

  Do you mind me asking what was a fair resolution or you mean a fair reasoning that the carton was packaged that way?

  They offered me a 10% refund, or an exchange. I took the refund given the unit appears to work fine. No dramas :) I was just a little unsure since I bought it as a present for someone and it wasn't a good look.
