[NSW] Sunfresh Clothes Airer/Drying Rack - $1.75 (Was $29) @ Bunnings Alexandria

890

EDIT 31Dec18 7.30am: Originally posted this bargain at $2.50ea. They are now scanning at $1.75ea Receipt

It's a clothes airer/drying rack designed to make use of the space above a bath tub.

I can't find them on Bunnings' website any more, but there are a few listings on eBay (example) if you want/need additional photos. RRP is $34.95 but Bunnings sold these at $29.00. Surprisingly sturdy and components seem well-designed and manufactured but definitely NOT worth $30+. I'd have happily paid $15-20, so $2.50 was a bargain to me.

The Alexandria store has a metric sh*t-tonne of them in stock upstairs as an end-of-aisle display (between aisles 74 & 75). Yes, it's a Bunnings clearance item so, as always, there's no guarantee your local store will have them in stock and/or have them at the same price.

Manufacturer blurb follows:

"…The Over Bath Airer is ideal for small loads of laundry when you don't want to get your floor wet. The big benefit with this dryer is how it allows water from extra wet delicates to drip dry right into the tub without creating any puddles.

It's adjustable frame locks allows it to adjust to any angle for proper fit above tubs of different widths, which also allows it to fold up and away to store when not in use. It comes fully assembled so you can dry right away.

Features:
* Suitable for built in bath tubs
* 2 quick release securing fasteners
* Fold down flat for easy storage
* 10kgs Max. load capacity
* Overall size" L:125(49") x W66cm(26")
* Folded dimension: H: 57cm(22.5")W: 66cm(26")D: 66cm(26")
* Adjustable frame locks - Set at any angle for different tub sizes
* Store away with little space when not using
* White powder coat on wires with "stone" moulding
* Fully assembled
* Ready to use…"

    Sometimes I go to Bunnings just for fun to find their promotional items.

    • +4

      I always pay a visit to their tool section to see if anything’s going for cheap.

      • +6

        I also always see tools shopping at bunnings

        • +4

          Hard to find the tool section when they are spread across the entire store.

          • @Maverick-au: This is why I take 2hrs min each visit and make excuses to go to Bunnings so I can check all their isles.
            Usually their promotional items are in boxes in the isle and their bigger promo items are in the middle of the store.

    • Likewise. And this particular store seems to have a disproportionately large number of clearance/promotional lines.

    They're not even stainless like the ones at Masters were for $39 for free standing units. $29 is a crazy price.

    If they priced them decently to begin with they wouldn't have to clear them out.

    • That's not how it works. If they wanted them ranged and they weren't selling they would just adjust the price.

      • Of course it's how it works, if a promotional product proves to be a success they will keep it on.

        If a regular product doesn't sell and isn't profitable they get rid of it.

        • -2

          No it's not.You're suggesting that they wouldn't price adjust from the first rrp to increase volume and would instead go straight into clearance.

            @phoenixx: They used to be $35, dropped to $29, and likely dropped to other prices before getting to $2.50 and now $1.75. Bunnings don't keep a record on the signs of all the price drops just like other stores don't and each Bunnings discounts stock differently, some only discount a few dollars whereas others will discount immediately by a huge percentage to clear stock.

            Some of this stock sits around for years, someone posted below that they purchased this from a Bunnings years ago for $4.

            Bunnings stores are very poorly run, despite their claims they rely on big margins to make decent profits to cover up for all their poor purchases and stock that sits around. Stock levels are poorly managed and stock is managed by the employees that work in that area manually ordering when they notice stock is low which explains the poor stock levels (either way too many or none at all).

    Good deal but it was never worth $29. It looks cheap as chit probably worth $10. We got a Hills one for $50 and it's 10 times better.

    • +4

      Agreed. Definitely not worth $29 (or more).

      But if the Hills ones are 10x better for 28x the price….this is a bargain, right? 😉

    • It's worth $2 though.

    I wish I had an outdoor bath so my clothes would be sunfresh.

  • …And on the bottom rail, I put my tiny laundry items.

    I bought this years ago from bunnings on clearance for 4 bucks. Mini review: I actually found the unit to be a good idea, in that it sits on your bath, which if it's not being used is fine, and drains into it so it's convenient especially if it's raining. The unit is actually reasonably well made, for the last 4 year's I have used it outside under a awning exposed the the elements and there is only minimal rust marking where the wires join the frame. The main issue I had with it was that when I upgraded my bath the platic brackets/feet felt harder than the bath acrylic and I stopped using it becuae I didmt want to scuff the bath, but that could easily be fixed with a few cm of rubber/foam tape. All in all a good product, but 29 bucks is a joke because the materials are nothing special and it only gives you a small amount of space (you could get two for your average bath though). At this price I am personally certifying it as a bargain.

    • very helpful review, thanks mate

    Does anyone know if this is also available in NSW?

    • +4

      Yes the deal says that the Bunnings Alexandria NSW store has a metric sh*t-tonne of them in stock upstairs as an end-of-aisle display (between aisles 74 & 75).

        Cheers. Sometimes I wonder if the description field is just for decoration ;-)

        • I dont want to sound like I am complaining, because OP put in an effort with description, but sometimes people miss key information. Maybe there needs to be a standard header on posts rather than relying on the nouse of the public to include important info up front?

  • Just picked one up. There’s about 5 left!

    • Where? Alexandria?

      • Yes, that’s where the deal is.

        • Will still have 3 when it opens today.

  • got this 2 weeks ago in WA store for full price :(

  • Anyone know if they are avail in any Melb stores? called Dandenong South and they don't think they ever had them.

    • Dandenong and Keysborough are supposed to have stock. Quite likely inaccurate stock levels though but you could give it a go.

  • Yep, confirmed none in the Ashfield Bunnings.

  • Thanks Fiza1981 will try Dandenong tomorrow and let all know

  • Can confirm there are 10+ of these at $4 on clearance at the Caroline Springs(VIC) Bunnings.

    Bought one on Sunday, will come in handy.
