while they dont let you split bills you ask for a total part way , i have seen it done multiple times .
If you have a company (or possibly just an ABN?) you can get a business membership, can split a bill and it is $5 cheaper

Yes up to 2 friends, but if paying by card, the MEMBER must used a card in their name.
So have your friend bring cash or be prepared to transfer the money to you.

GO in with your friend, sign up, you get a card, they get a card. You both live at the same address right ;)
Get communal trolley, print receipt, have them total their amount and transfer to you.
The other thing to keep in mind is that, although some things are multipacks, some things are 2 kg jars etc. So you will be able to split some things but you will need to "rejar" or be prepared to eat a LOT of some things. Sour cream comes in 1L, Yogurt in 2Kg, Milk in 3L bottles, etc.
If you unload all your items onto the conveyor belt first, followed by each friend's separately, it becomes much easier to calculate how much they owe you each from the receipt!
