Claiming TRS, Wrong Address Number on Receipt

I bought a MacBook recently and was planning on claiming TRS.

The cashier entered the wrong street address number (23 instead of 20). The rest of the information (name, street name) is correct.

Has anyone had this problem before? Is it likely to be accepted?

Quickly get a loan and purchase number 23 as an IP then it will be legit.

I think it will be fine. 3 and 0 are next to each other on the keyboard so just a simple input error. Enjoy your travels.

    • I already thought of that, I'm the second to last house though. Our street numbers only go up to 21.

      Cheers!

    Won’t be a problem 👍

well …they LIKELY won't check but if you've got other invoices that have the correct address they MIGHT notice. they have absolute discretion and this depends on which airport and how busy they are whether they care or not.

what is most important is the ABN details on the invoice and your name somewhere and the other usual conditions (60 days, $300min etc.)

    this shouldn't be a problem. DON'T mention it. 99.999% they won't notice.

adelaide TRS is actually the worst for sighting of goods and making sure they are correct (as are customs, they are literally quite bored here and need something to do)

    but you should be fine.

    • Great, thanks for the tips!

The address is unlikely to be an issue, but the tax free threshold might. It's 900 limit per person if you are intending to bring it back to Australia but you can pool the limits of your travel companions so if you have others travelling with you, have them join you in the line.

If you are travelling alone, they'll notice that the MacBook is ≥$900 and ask you whether you are intending to bring it back to Australia and if you say you are, they will tell you that you have to declare it when you come back and pay back the tax on the portion above $900. They are quite bored like b0rat said, and sometimes they'll go on a power trip when they see ≥$900 claimed and you answer that you will be bringing the item back.

    • And $450 for each child.

Power trip? Oh you mean like informing you of the law and your responsibilities as everyone sees it as free money? You're making a false declaration and committing tax fraud. You could be prosecuted.

      • For getting the address wrong?

        • As you can see above, I was replying to the power trip for over $900 comment.

    • yes clx is right. ego power trip stern warning because it's greater than $900. just smile and nod and declare nothing on return.

it's depreciated 10% once you've owned it as they can't really charge you tax at full price on an item that is no longer new.

but of course, they will threaten.

  • Put a bunch of stickers all over it and carry it in a old laptop bag on the way back.

  • I think it only matters if you opt to get a cheque sent to you, which is rare these days…

  • Addresses are not required on Tax Invoices, even those over $1,000.
