Amazon.com.au selling foreign power plugs

Hi,

Over the past few months I've purchased a few items from amazon.com.au. 2 of these items came with a power plug or dc adapter from ANOTHER country, with no plug converter included in the package. In both cases the supplier's named ended with "-AU", and the order was fulfilled by Amazon.

Questions;

is that even legal? Selling an electrical device to an Aus customer with a non-Aus plug?
are these items certified for use in Aus? If one caused a fire, would home insurance be an issue?

  After calling Amazon and complaining, they pointed this out;
  
  "The DC adapter is not Australian.You need an extra converter adapter(NOT included)"
  
  I didn't notice this when purchasing.

This is a grey area of Amazon AU. There is no check in place to see if goods are infact AU compliant so right now all the Chinese companies with stores on Amazon are non-compliant.

  There are Amazon Australia associates that from time to time post deals on Ozbargain selling unapproved electrical goods. The items are usually shipped from VIC.

    I was involved with helping a store setup shop with Amazon here in Australia and there were no checks in place to see if they were AU compliant when we had our container sent to the Amazon distribution warehouse.

It's unlawful. You should report the seller to Amazon Australia and your state's regulator.
