Looks like we're off to visit China in May and was wondering about out best phone options? Pay Telstra international roaming or is there a better plan?
Cheers

Free wifi everywhere in China, you could use that? Also, make sure you have your VPN on your phone before you leave and make sure it's fine for China
From experience, most will require a SMS code sent to a local phone number.
buy a local prepaid sim card
Few things to look out for when traveling to China
1 - using local (Chinese Telcos, including from HK/Macau) pre-paid sim means you won't be able to access Facebook/YouTube/Google.
2 - most VPN won't work from within China, you need OpenVPN over port 80/443 to have a chance and an IP address that has not been blacklisted before.
3 - Free wifi will have the same restriction as the local telco, so no Facebook/YouTube/Google access.
I would recommend the Vodafone with $5 roaming it will have the added benefit of un-restricted (but still monitored) access to Facebook/YouTube/Google.
Thanks all. :)
Will mostly be used just to keep in contact with people back home so facebook/youtube wont be needed. It will mostly be phone calls/sms. Will my MotoG 4 work over there is the next question. :)
Should be fine.
