Is It Good Laptop (HP ENVY X360 15-cn0011tx: Touchscreen) ?

As a student, I was looking to buy a laptop for light gaming and office work. I'm considering something which is lightweight and has dedicated graphics around AUD $1,500.

This model is costing me AUD $1,354 (After employee discount).

  • Looks solid, especially for that price! Don't forget to buy some extended warranty though; if you webchat with the guys there maybe they could offer some sort of package (laptop + extended warranty) at an even sweeter deal.

    • I really appreciate you replying, I thought no one will… I'll look for an extended warranty. Thanks man!

      • Just an additional point, 'light' gaming should be fine with that machine. However if you plan to play any first person shooter games for example, even at the lowest graphic settings you would probably only manage 30 - 45fps (assuming you are gaming via wifi).

Office work and streaming will have no issues with the laptop.

        • I kinda like games with a good story mode. I used to play some telltale games on my mac. Unfortunately, my office software face hard time working or don't support at all.

I hope I'll be alright with that specs

  • Low voltage CPU
not a great gpu for gaming

    This is much better.

    long battery+ lightweight= slower machine
average battery+ weight = faster machine

If you want a lightweight get something under $1000

If you want a solid computer then the first one i link is a better deal

    • It's fine when I have it plugged in and HP high performance mode turned on. It gets really hot though when it really gets working.

I only bought this because I wanted an active stylus and some light gaming, I got it for $1351 with UniDays. I'm able to play games like Watch_Dogs and The Crew with no problem. It's horrible when it's on battery but I normally only play games like that when I'm by my desk.

I'm quite happy with it so far. Only thing is in Skype calls the volume keeps reducing itself as I speak and there's a occasional squeal probably coming from the hard drive.
I have a work around for the mic issue until I figure out what's wrong and the squeal can be stopped when I unplug the device.

  • Spending that much for light gaming seems pretty expensive.

    • Do you reckon any other options?
