Hi, I am looking for a bike around the $400 price range and stumbled upon this bike that is 50% off currently from Anaconda. I don't have much knowledge about bikes and I want to know if this is a good bike for its price or is there another bike around this price range that is better value.

No way that bike is worth $800, let alone $400. You can get much better bang for your buck.

Well-spotted ouzoholic. I rebirth thrown-out bicycles, the rebelsport offering seems reasonable if you can't find a local re-cyclist who can offer you something for <$100. Cheers
Aldi do a pretty good one for that sort of money. Apparently they're made by polygon…
Yep, the Aldi one is a great value option:

Almost 16kg… It'll be a bit of a lump to ride
Go to a proper bike shop and get something like Giant Boulder for $450+. You get a light weight bike than Anaconda with a good group set (components). All major bicycle brands like Giant, Trek, Specialized, etc got entry level mountain bike for that kind of a budget.
I agree, get a decent brand from a local bike shop, the components will be much better. If not, if i was buying a cheap mountain bike i'd look at reid; https://www.reidcycles.com.au/bikes/mountain-bikes.html
Reid at least use shimano components on some of their bikes.
Anaconda typically have their RRP a lot higher than the value of the bike, but often at the sale price they are OK value. This one seems to not be worth the $400 considering there are others out there with better spec, polygon or Reid possibly. Maybe that one would be worth $250.
It certainly would not be suited to vigourous off road riding.
i highly recommend aldi’s Mtb, I have one myself. I saw one left in store marked down to $199, from $349. They have them at least once a year anyway, I’d wait for them if you aren’t in a rush to buy one.
interesting. i have never seen bikes on sale in aldi before. i must go to the wrong ones
The components are fairly mediocre (low end), though I haven't looked at mtb prices for years so maybe they're all this expensive…
