Are all Optus Wireless Plans Capped at 12mbps ?

Hi All

I am now finally on my last month of Belong ADSL contract where I have experienced mainly 2 MBPS daily. Since I live In an apartment my options are very limited. (basically only ADSL). I am looking at Optus Wireless options and I have searched this forum for Information if all of Optus wireless products speeds are capped at 12/1 MBPS.

Does anyone know if this products speed is capped like their wireless home products? I was planning to just buy this and stick it a 4G modem off ebay. Thoughts?

      They said to ask on any bargain website.

      they said it is capped. But I the rep wasn't very confident and very unsure.

        When I got it, rep clearly said mobile broadband is not capped unlike home broadband. better to check

          Thanks I will be heading into the Optus store first thing tomorrow. I have been on whirlpool forums and everyone there agrees with your consensus.

        Definitely might need to ask online (maybe online chat) I asked the rep in store twice, first person told me it runs at "3G speed" and when I asked specifically what speed that is, or mbps or something they said "3G Optus, its one of the best" and didn't know the actual speed, ughhh. Next time I walked in I asked another lady who told me, it runs at the mobile speed, "like really fast, you won't have problems with like internet things so its all good" sigh.

        Ended up grabbing vivid wireless instead, wish that was in a way of defiance but since they're all under the same network, it doesn't really change much except make things more annoying.

    Before you sign up make sure you have a tower near you that uses 2300mhz, as this is the only way to get good speeds with optus home 4G. If not you will only get similar adsl2 speeds.

    I looked into getting it when they stopped shaping the speed but I don't have a 2300mhz tower near me.

    You can get their tablet broadband plan and put it in a 4G modem. I got the Samsung Tab 4 deal in September. I am using it for almost three months already.
    There is no speed limit at least for tablet/data sim plan.

    In order to get more data, there is a wireless broadband option, AC800S modem can give you best speed possible as they offer 2300MHz in the metro area, along with link aggregation.

    For $80 you can get 500G data. However, you must purchase the modem from them, according to the salesperson online or in-store. I don't think there is a speed limit for this plan (what's the point for having such fancy modem and only having 12M/1M speed?).

      I live in nothern suburb in Melbourne and most of the time I can get around 60M/15M without using their 2300MHz band. I am using a Netgear Nighthawk® M1 but unfortunately, it doesn't offer me 2300MHz option.

      My VividWireless (purely using Optus 2300MHz) is also due to cancellation by the end of this month and it has been quite reliable all around, but it only gives me 12M/1M for $90!

      I am leaning to the AC800S as well. looks hell fancy with all the bright lights lol. I just checked the Whirlpool forums and it looks they speed aren't capped either. fingers crossed

        Careful w the ac800s. I backed out of it today n got b525 instead. Alot of reported disconnections w the ac800s for the last 6 months or so. It came from connection on band 3 which is the 1800 channel.

          I bought the ac800s from a ebay seller in china (optus branded). I've had it for several months and it works fine no problems.

            @RotundPolarBear: Yeah not all ac800s had problems. But there were enough people having disconnection issues to worry about. I didn't want to waste $220 to find out. The most disappointing thing was the lack of response from Optus in resolving the matter.

      I'm on the same but I get on average 80-90 Mbps (10-11 MB/s)except school holidays when it averages 6.5MB/s or around 53Mbps

    I had Optus mobile broadband and it was uncapped.

    Got the galaxy tab s4 w 100gb+100gb mobile plan 24m $60 today and a huawei b525 outright. Tried the sim in the b525 and got 50/4 test result. Reception was showing 4/5 bars. Hope this helps.

      that's quite fast. I checked my Optus 4g speed on my phone at around 6 PM yesterday and i was getting 4MB download which is what i get with my ADSL+.

      I live in northern suburbs and suffering from slow internet speed disease.

        Yeah the problem with ADSL2+ is the speed but it's mostly all you can eat plans so it was good for some.

        The two major issues with Mobile Broadband were the lack of data and network congestion. With 200GB the first issue is resolved. If 200GB is not enough then go for 500GB or data pool with another family member. What I worry the most is network congestion if everyone are getting into the same plans. It could end up ADSL2+ V2 but only wireless.

    It's uncapped but also no promises of what speed you will likely get. Could be 100, could be 20.

    The Optus plan with the Samsung Tab S4 (I have this) also has 12 months of Netflix included for free.

    The Netflix voucher is actually a dollar value that amounts to $13.99 X 12 = $167.88.

    If you are on the basic Netflix sub of $9.99, it ends up being almost 17 months of free Netflix. Great deal.
