Agree. But it depends on your requirements.
Backpacking as an outdoor recreation (hiking in mountains etc) is very different to holiday backpacking.I started with a good quality 75L many years ago. Never have had a more comfortable & well fitting pack. Bought in store, staff had me try on different brands & correctly fitted my chosen backpack - really worth the extra cost!
Holiday travels for 3 months at a time overseas - it became a burden due to size & weight. (Also, due to a terrorist attack on 1 trip using backpacks, all storage facilities were closed & people with large backpacks were treated with suspicion.)
If travelling with a large pack, temptation is to fill it. (Can be compressed down.) Large heavy packs often are not easy to maneuver or store in cities.Have heard of travellers with large backpacks referred to as turtles - robbers pull them onto their back & they are pretty defenseless.
But, for longer multi-day through hikes carrying all supplies & camping gear, the old 75L still gets used. Barely was big enough for 12 days on Overland Track in Tas (with extra supplies in case of snow etc).
For holiday travels up to a month I now take a 25L day pack (essential anyway for city exploring & short trips) plus a clip on dry bag. Total of around 32L & weighing 7kg max - means I just take all my luggage on board flights, ready for a quick exit. It is a freeing experienceđ
Plenty of other [products discounted)(https://www.blackwolf.com.au/store/clearance/) including tents and day packs. I like the Cyclone 30 Day Pack at $64 (down from $$159). If you create an account, 10% discount brings it down to $57.40, although initially price increases to $73 after you login.
Managed to buy the Blackwolf Grand Teton 90L for $148 a couple of nights ago, very happy saved almost $100
It's gone up to $156 at the moment. I didnt get a 10% off when signing up unfortunately but still happy
This bag is perfect for someone who hasn't done any backpacking, because it will soon teach them that they really don't want an 85L pack.
I progressively traded down from 85L to 32L, no matter how long the trip - the sweet spot for most people is probably going to be somewhere below 55L.
