  • Nice find. Plus a lot easier to return this TV to the Good Guys once you realize it doesn't do Dolby Vision.

Apart from that feature missing it is an excellent TV at a great price.

The Hisense 55PX looks interesting at nearly 2k for an OLED. Not sure it'll be as good as the panny though:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Hisense-55PX-55-139cm-OLED-U…

    • Apparently the Hisense uses last years LG Tech so they'll need to reduce it to less than $1500 to compete. It's good to see them in the game though. The worrying thing is that they all use the LG panels though.

Lol soo many people complaining that it doesn't do dolby vision wow settle down, unless you have them side by side in a perfect world who cares !! With my series 8 4k samsung I can't even tell the difference when HDR is turned on…

Oh and Hisense are kidding them selves if they are pricing themselves about the big players considering this is their first gen OLED haha

This is a good watch from this point onwards for people considering the Panny.

It is a great TV. No doubt. But food for thought.

Deal breaker apparrently for some. Like really that's high on the must have does it?

As for that hisense. $2k. No. Rather get the sony a8f 55" for that kind of money.

You make it sound like Panasonic are just taking features away and not giving anything as a substitute which happens to be hdr10+

Now I'm not saying which is better as I don't know either. All I know so far is there are more backers for hdr10+ than dolby vision so i went with the panasonic. In saying that I'm not the greatest at backing/picking tech trends so what do I know really.

This might help with that HDR10+ argument.

There is also an argument that Panasonic will eventually firmware update the TV to support DV but I doubt it.

        • If they do. Cherry on top of that cake. If they dont. No sleep will be lost.

What swayed me to get the panasonic was first the PQ is great according to many reviews. This coupled with being just over $200 cheaper than the Sony.

Considered the lg b8 also but Reddit posts show flickering issues with this model.

As for if I prefer panasonic to have dolby vision or hdr10+. Either one is icing on the cake both is the cherry on top.

As for the smart tv interface of either. Sony being android tv. Lg being webos. Not sure what panasonic is using though review say it's dated looking.

There's always my Vodafone tv box.

          • @xoom: In that video you'll see that some motion stutter and lack of DV is the problem for this TV. It isn't a huge problem, and if I never get my 55" C8 for $2,000 over the next month i'll probably kick myself for not getting the Panasonic while cheap. But if I can get the C8, you basically get zero problems (with PQ being slightly less than the Panasonic, which is the leader in that sense).

Smart TV is a non-factor for me as I will use my NVIDIA Shield for any streaming/media duties. I also couldn't go the Sony as I need to be able to game in 1080p without input lag (Nintendo Switch).

            • @serpserpserp: Watched the review and he did state that there is fewer hdr10+ content as oppose to dolby vision. well that's because hdr10+ is newer.

Not saying one is better than the other still as both does support dynamic metadata.

Obviously if you are watching content with dolby vision but your tv don't support it then of course there will be an issue there though minor to me anyway.

The bit about his comment that panasonic won me over was the PQ is top notch. That is at the top of my list along with the price.

Every other feature it comes with is just gravy.

              • @xoom: He didn't just say fewer, he said there was basically zero content to even test.

Panasonic is a great tv. Almost the best!

  • I bought a Panasonic 2 years ago and the power supply died in the ass jbhifi didn't want a piece of it nor did Panasonic, they wanted $150 call out fee and wanted $500 to repair it.

    • Was the tv still under warranty? Did you you file a complaint with accc as per below?

      https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/complaints-problems/make-a…

Not saying all this to defend anyone. Just saying what needed to be done. If that was done.

      • Most popular brands only give you 1 year warranty, I already spoke to jbhifi and Panasonic and consumer protection, spoke to my mate who sells TVs at Harvey Noman he told me to go back to jbhifi and be very firm with them and insist that they repair it, because 2 years is unacceptable seeing that I paid $1500 for it and now gonna cost me another $500 to repair it. Then most likely will go ahead a start a case with consumer protection.

        • Yes you need to specifically remind them you have two years under ACL. Then they'll help you out.

    • Should of told them your rights and about ACL they would have it replaced or refunded !!

    • How did you know it was the power supply?

      • I got a tv technician out and they can tell what the issue is by the number of red flashes the standby light flashes, different flashes for different codes.

        • Yeah I seen that happen at my time with JB the panasonic instore ones would not turn on and flash red or you have to keep hitting the power button and they would eventually turn on (like an old car starting up)
