Returning iPhone 7plus for a Refund after 1 Day at Harvey Norman (Because Battery Is Big & Slow To Charge)

Will I get a refund ? It’s been one day and I’ve opened the box . I’m not happy with it. I’ve heard HN are pretty bad with refunds. I’ve also got a Officeworks gift card for Christmas which is $200 and was thinking of putting it towards a phone from there store

  • It would depend on the reason why you’re not happy with it. Any further details?

Battery is very slow to charge And it’s quite big ahaha

Slow to charge compared to what?

Did you not try it out in store before purchasing?

For just a change of mind purchase, you're better off using eBay/Gumtree to attempt to sell it. I can't see HN taking it back for just a change of mind nor do they have to under any laws.

This is the correct answer. Retailers are not obligated to refund you just because you changed your mind. You'll have to sell it as a 'used' iPhone if you do not want it.

@Hybroid: Ok thanks for the reply !

        • Alright thanks for the reply!

It's slow because the charger that's included is 5W. Use a charger that is 10W or more.

What would I be able to say to get a refund

      • +2

Be nice, the nicer you are, the more likely you are to have someone understand your situation and let you have the refund.

I've been able to get things returned in the past just by being nice to the assistant and explaining why I wish to return it. I've seen customers who walk in and cause a fuss and they never get what they want.

        • I have had the opposite experience. Started off civil and polite but the staff member wanted to reject the return regardless… just having a bad hair day it seemed. The product was definitely defective and unfit for its intended use.
I then had to stop being mr nice guy and stand my ground. They had no option but to get the manager and when i explained to him what the fault was he immediately approved a refund.
True, it is always best to be polite but sometimes some take that to mean you can be fobbed off easily.

      • That you are Gerry's nephew/niece.

You can if buying from Apple store directly

    • -3

Yeah I’m aware of that but this is from Harvey Norman

  • As a reference, Apple has a 14 days refund policy, no questions asked if product is returned free of any damage. Best to buy from there if you are unsure in the future unless other stores offer it for cheaper.

If I remember correctly, Harvey doesn’t have a change of mind return policy, so you would have trouble returning the phone even if it was sealed.
As you’ve already opened and used it I reckon you’re SOOL (and I don’t blame Harvey).

You’ll get a store credit at best. Good luck.

No change of mind policy for HN purchases.
    Bad luck.

  • List it on eBay if you paid a good price for it, I usually make all or most of the money back on items I got a good deal on if I change my mind quickly.

List it as used but really emphasise that you hardly used it, that you were thinking of listing it as New: Never Used because it's in as-new condition and give a reason that your selling it like you won another phone or recieved a new Xmas gift so you don't want it anymore.

(Obviously do not fabricate the condition of the device but if it is in as new condition then of course)

and give a reason that your selling it like you won another phone or recieved (sic) I a new Xmas gift so you don't want it anymore.

      AKA lie

        What would the greens say?

        • Make sure you recycle the phone correctly at the end of its useable economical life.

  • What do you mean slow to charge…How long are we talking?

  • +1

iPhones 7 never had fast charging like androids so I’m not sure what you were expecting.

Use the 10w charger you get with iPads or use a 2.4amp charger in the car, it will charge relatively fast. I can go from a completely dead battery to 65% in 1 hour as an example.

If you are that desperate for battery life you’re better off getting a powerbank.

  • Maybe post it on Reddit but change the story a bit, could find a more favourable outcome there perhaps?

    Disableduser.

  • You don’t like it because it’s “quite big” and slow to charge?

Are you serious? Did you even hold it before buying it? Ready any specs? iPhones are often payed out on, because of their excessive price, what would make you buy a more expensive item to what you normally would, without first testing it/researching?

Or is this a gift return?

  • This is what is called buyers remorse. Stores are not legally required to accept returns under these circumstances but many do as a goodwill gesture.
