Recommend Me a Car Battery Charger Supercheap

Can anyone recommend a value for money car battery charger from Supercheap while the the 30% sale is on?

I need to recharge batteries on occasions and also when I'm away I'd like to trickle charge as I've already killed two fairly new batteries in the past due to them dying while I was away.

I don't care too much about how long it takes to charge, and would like to stay under $100 if possible.

Thanks all, and Merry Christmas!

    • Thanks. I'll look into it. Doesn't look as though Supercheap stocks them though, no worries

      • sparesbox has it with 15% off (shipping included)
great deal atm, add in CR and you're pretty much at the 100 mark

        • They go on sale through your state RACV I think I've seen them for about 90 ish and worth every penny especially if you have multiple vehicles that get used every now and then or you head away for a long vacation.

It's brought a few batteries that were deemed dead by professionals back to life and have been reliable ever since it went through the full cycle.

My whole family use it every now and then just to recondition the battery.

I let my friend borrow it for a few days every year and he does a full cycle on all the batteries on his farm, the cars, the quads, the kids motor bikes and a few other things and he has never had his other half ring him up complaining something isn't working from lack of use. (generally the bikes).

it's saved my friends and family and me thousands over the years for something that costs less than 100 on sale.

          • @Toons: Frigging awesome. Thanks guys, sounds like exactly what I'm after. Thanks for the advice and help all, Merry Christmas, Festivus etc

    • Came to this thread to recommend this.
It keeps my Optima Yellow tops and non AGM batteries in check.

    • Feeling Lucky?

AliExpress has lotsa vendors offering a (more or less generic) 6A SmartCharger for ~Au$ 17 shipped

(There may also be a 10A variation, but I don't need one, so I just quote what the friend showed me in the listing she got it from. She didn't like it, due to its light weight & short lead to battery. AC lead is long enough for me. I had to supplie a EU to AU adapter, as she needed hers.

The short battery lead starts-out being a kind of lamp-wire, whose + ans - leads can be separated, to accommodate most vehicle batteries, that I've seen.

So, it became my early Xmas gift (only slightly used), & it's OK…
Just stay in the room while it's plugged in, as a hedge… Eg,
for its first 6 months of use.

It stayed cool with fan on (haven't run it in today's heat, tho)

It's AC power cable comes out one end &
the short color-coded lead w/ smaller terminal connectors fr other end.

      It has a fan, inside.

All in a light weight box. Fan runs as needed (usually, when charging)

Without AC coming in, it displays battery voltag & possibly %-full.

During AC-powered operation, you'll see battery voltage. % full. & 2 other numbers. As well as
Few LEDs (full, charging, powered, etc.)

I use it to keep a 4WD battery (for older vehicles) topped up, but we also had success charging a 12 v battery, that had kept an HF radio powered during a lengthy Tx + Rx test, that pulled its voltage down by a few volts.. It did Ok… Counting % full up, as it changed charging voltage. Informative numbers & LEDs on top display.

Oh, we also brought an older vehicle back to Life, by charging its long-flat battery for ~3 or 4 hr.
Got 2 starts out of it, ie, during a couple of short runs to + from nearby shops.

I can't send a photo without having a sufficiently validated AliExpress listing. With mostly high feedback, so you're on your own, I guess.

  • Why not get a portable jump starter ? more convenience .

    • I'm interested in them but isn't it better to keep a battery on charge while away for periods of time instead of letting it die then just jump starting it?

  • Ctek are great for battery maintenance, i use them across 5 cars.

  • +1

I've had more than a couple of CTek chargers fail on me. I did some research on, and purchased the new Century 9 stage 6A charger. I'm very happy with it so far.

    • That's the first bad news I've heard about the CTek. Were they still under warranty? I've been waiting for a sale on the CTek, I'll look into the Century too.
