  • Anyone from Melbourne received a call or have their tv delivered? Still no call.

    • +1

      Nope. No call. No delivery

Tracking shows "shipment held at depot" since 2nd Jan.

This is just ridiculous - even if they are too busy, is it so hard to call and say it will be "delivered on Friday" or something. Even if they are too busy to deliver it the next day - I would still prefer a call and tell me it can't be delivered til the end of the week or something.

And when you call them up all you get is they will "escalate it" - apparently they can't transfer you to let you book in a time - you just have to keep waiting for the call.

And for kicks - the "escalation" makes no difference - no call, then you call up again the next day and you'll be given the same answer again. Rinse and repeat!

    • Still waiting :-(

    • I called DHL last week when I saw it was held in Depot. DHL lady confirmed it was in the DHL Altona warehouse. I organised a local pick up il instead and got mine already.

That said, they don't have a proper pick up place and you need to wait in the front gates of the warehouse for it to be delivered. Be prepared to wait up to 1 hour as their service is crap and there's no proper communication bt the guards and the guys inside the warehouse.

I was concerned at the start as the Security Guard told me, the lady I've spoken to was from Sydney and some tines they are not certain that your item is in the local depot. You need to ask the lady 5o ensure and organise your local pick up from Melbourne and wait until they call you up again to co form locsl pick up.

    • @CN888 Did you end up getting your TV yet?

  • What a joke!

  • Received mine on Friday Morning! (got a call Thursday) beautiful TV. Luckily was able to reuse my Sony 450 wall mount. Unfortunately I cannot use my br100 wireless sub with this tv, so a bit disappointed I have to buy something else now. Anyway the tv is still fantastic. You can install the A1 Oreo 8.0 firmware already if you want to

  • It is much faster after the update i have connected it through lan cable the picture is stanning and the sport channels even only in hd it is so smooth like nba much better than my previous sony of 5 years ago I thought the 65 will be too big but it is perfect just need to purchase now apple tv to get dolby vision as who knows when will foxtel get 4k movies

    • Pre update usage with wifi v post update with wifi - your thoughts?

      • +1

I didnt use wifi but it was very slow to navigate now it is fast. It got me scarred when it initially loaded i said how could Sony put this rubbish raspberry pi is smoother than this but after update it is very fast and responsive.

One thing that is bothering me when watching foxtel the osd keeps getting shown when an add starts and when show starts again. On sd channel the volume is so loud on hd channels very low hopefully there is a setting. I didn't try free to air. Watch the shallows free 4k movie and wow the picture is so good it would be even better if they allowed more movies to choose from.

Now need a deal on apple 4k tv to come through.

    • Did you update to Android 8.0 using the link Evostar posted above?

      • No I didn't use any link but it updated the tv after few minutes of usage. I am sure I am on totally new version because the initial Android TV was horrible slow and with this one it is fast. I will check do I have the same version as on Sony website. I am lucky that I have fibre to the home so everything downloads very fast.

        • Oh ok …. I got that update too.

It's the latest update for the AF8 over the factory installed version on the TV.

It's an update that includes security fixes and performance improvements and Dolby Vision - but it's still Android 7.0 -> you can check by going to Settings->About

The link posted above talks about using the firmware update to Android 8.0 that Sony released for the A1E and downloading it to a USB drive and updating the AF8 with that.

Sony has yet to release the Android 8.0 update for the AF8…

  • I have just checked the version and it says 7 i wouldnt install that version on the youtube because it is not designed for oceania region so it will not have the local content. I am very happy as it is.

  • Are everyone's panel perfectly straight at the top my one is not. It is probable expected as the tv is very long.

    • I think my one is a little curved looking down from the top - no where as extreme as those "curved" screens that was a fad a few years ago but nonetheless, not completely straight.

I have a feeling that is by design rather than a manufacturing fault

Also the TV sits at a very slight angle on the stand and it is not completely upright. Nothing like the lean back angle of the A1E and not noticeable when watching TV but you will notice when looking directly side on.

  • I have to say it is joy to watch sports on this tv i watched an nba game, cricket epl and it is so smooth and clear i love it. Hd channels look stunning sd are ok Playing with settings to see can i fix my foxtel issues. I will search on foxtel forum.

I have read some forums and people who have purchased curved tv say it is the worst purchase ever I have seen curved tv in retailers and never liked them.

    • Lucky for all the vast option fixed the sound issues now it is same perceived level on sd and hd channels now just the osd to stop coming up on foxtel channel change.

      • +1

Try going into Settinga -> Channel Setup … and turn the Info banner toggle switch to off.

        • Thank you that is it. Now everything is working as expected.
