Gotta love how everyone in NSW complains how dysfunctional their public transport system. It's like they've never been to other states and experienced their "public transport".

Add the life experience with NSW public transport of past decades as well 😄

      • +3

I miss the monorail as buses won't go everywhere.

I lived in London for 4 years. The public transport there is actually mindboggling how good it is. Sydney transport is completely shit in comparison, even taking into account the funding and population

IIRC Opal is based off London. Besides Sydney's public transport system is better than the rest of the country. There are cities out there with no trains…

  • Guess I'll have to start walking from Wolli Creek or Mascot

No guessing unless you want to pay….

You can get off the train at Mascot and take the 400 bus. Only cost pennies extra due to the transfer discount.
Will need to allocate at least an extra half an hour or so though, as the arrival time of the 400 can be wildly erratic.

Always do this when I have time. At least this won’t change.

I think many people here are too young to remember that a smaller station access fee used to be charged at Green Square and Mascot as well. In 2011 the State Government reached an agreement with the Airport Link Company to pay these fees on behalf of passengers. Unsurprisingly, patronage shot up the next year.

Crazy when you consider that Green Square and Mascot were slated for massive urban renewal projects. The areas are full of high rises now, the stations are packed, and construction hasn't even been completed yet.

    • is it the same going the other way ? Internatioal to domestic?

      • +1

Yeah the bus goes to both international and domestic, the bus stop is just outside the arrival area

  • I just walk. lots of people do.
Paying $15 to travel to the airport station is straight out theft.

Paying $15 to travel to the airport station is straight out theft.

was about to post exactly this. Does anyone think Macquarie Bank (who set that fee in the first instance) is any less of a thief

I still complain about it but it is better than Melbourne where you pretty much have to get a bus for $20 and still be an hour away.

Oh gosh, Mada! just when we'll fly off in Feb…. why heck this govt need us go to airport be so expensive!!!!!

rarely travel to airport. Pls enlighten me what are the other cheaper tricks and how to do it…

curious will they implement this not only at airport station

    • I think you're safe to take the public bus for cheap. The thing is airport stations are privately owned and can therefore rip off customers as much as they want.

  • +1

Fun fact for anyone not wanting to take the bus: the station access fee if you're travelling from Mascot or Green Sq stations is only $6

You could potentially use 2 opal cards (or hop off at Green Square/Mascot and wait an hour) to save some money
